This is the newer version of it.

I understood that was the version for Oculus, not in general ?    wrongly 😉 seems to work fine!

I'm using vrperfkit with my Reverb G2. Fholger's github page did say Oculus and OpenVR so I tested anyway.

The normal features appear to work well (fsr, nis, cas (new), sharpen, radius, etc.) however, I didn't see much difference with the fixed foveated enabled or disabled on my 3090. More testing tonight.

Perhaps I'm missing something obvious here, but the newer "vrperfkit" replaces dxgi.dll with its own shim as opposed to the previous releases which replaced Openvr_api.dll. Which means that you can no longer use this mod with Reshade as Reshade also relies on its own version of dxgi.dll.

Odd, the one I use doesn't contain that .dll

Exactly, but this, which is apparently the "latest" incarnation, uses dxgi.dll:

Can someone clear this up for me please

You place the dxgi.dll and the associated yml config file in the DCS BIN directory. However, I would strongly recommend you use a mod manager to do this. Also, any other mod that relies on a custom dxgi.dll will no longer work, I suspect. Hence, my original question.

Not tried it, but I would imagine so otherwise you'll be running two versions of the same mod...

Planned mods:

  • "Fixed foveated" rendering (render fewer pixels at the edges of the screen)
    • Radial Density Masking (all GPUs, but works only with a handful of games)
  • Force hidden area mask: don't render pixels at the edges that are not visible in the headset. Many games already use this mask, but not all. This mod will allow you to force its usage.

The fixed foveated feature allows control over the masked areas. It also does not state that this wouid be disabled if already used by a game, and so I will keep testing.

oh, and please don't stop progress!

might be my bad...but where is the ingame option for (fixed) foveated rendering "already used by a game" in DCS?

You could try this in DCS https://github.com/fholger/openvr_foveated/

Okay so do I understand correctly that one of our biggest VR performance saviors FHolger provided us with 2 extra mods on top of OpenVR FSR?

  1. OpenVR FSR https://github.com/fholger/openvr_fsr/releases
  2. OpenVR foveated https://github.com/fholger/openvr_foveated/
  3. VRPerfkit https://github.com/fholger/vrperfkit

Should all 3 be installed side by side? They do not overlap?

Cheers,

Not exactly. VRPerfkit encompasses both OpenVR FSR and OpenVR foveated and should NOT be used in conjuction.

If you're not using any ReShade or other shader modifications that utilizes dxgi.dll, then VRPerfkit is the one for you. If you have something like ReShade that already modifies the dxgi.dll then you would need to use OpenVR FSR as it interacts with openVR_api.dll instead of dxgi.dll

Just downloaded the 0.2.2 latest. Seems to contain the dxgi.dll.

Double check your download.

I haven't tested if they work together, but you can rename either of the DLLs to d3d11.dll to install them alongside each other.

Anybody got the foveated patch tested and working? Am thinking to try it but haven't messed with dll's before, am running Reshade and don't want to lose the sharpness.
