Best fuel performance?

In the F18, there is an "optimal throttle position".

And how optimal would be the position that allows you to go further in the shortest possible time.

That optimal position changes with height? Or always the higher the better, the less resistance

It depends… the FPAS page on the MFD’s will show the optimal air speed for a given set of criteria

another related question ...

The speed shown by the F18 instruments depends on the flight height. If I'm not mistaken, the F18 measures the speed, passing air through some ducts ... When it flies higher, the air is less dense, moving that meter less, resulting in that the speed that the instruments "read" is less than the one that would be at the level of evil.

Is that so?

Is there a way to translate the speed in height, to speed at (real) sea level?

True Airspeed Calculator | TAS Calculator (easycalculation.com)

its also shown on the digital map as on the right of your aircraft

Use the FPAS for sure, best range is usually M0.83, best E is around M0.5-0.6 or so.

Furthest in shortest possible time is always MAX throttle. For flight trajectory that is an unusual and complicated analysis. Usually performance optimal is given as Ps max which is the maximum energy add rate which is combination of speed and altitude energies.

If you just want maximum level speed it's going to happen about 36,000' in an ISA standard atmosphere. That's your best Mach. Mach 1 is slower higher but not by as much (~12% from SL to 30kft) the increased Mach number possible more than makes up for that (M1.0 SL, 1.6 36kft). If you are not already at this height then it will take time to climb to it which reduces distance covered. For long ranges the climb is worth it. For short ranges the climb is not. For ranges of 100nm+ a Ps max climb at M0.9 and an acceleration at 36kft is going to be close enough to minimum time.

Be aware that maximum performance is not good fuel economy. Best cruise is going to depend on drag and weight but in range M0.450 to M0.85. Best speed depends a lot on weight, drag, and altitude.
