Important Notes:

- This is NOT a new server, but rather a mission with exceptional features for the Cold War 1947 - 1991 server.
- All aircraft and weapons are limited in numbers.
- The scenario of this mission is completely fictive.
- Flying solo is NOT appreciated! This is a MULTIPLAYER mission on a public server and not for other purposes.
- Use SRS for communicating with other players to get the most out of your teamwork.
- The mission features the free map, Mariana Islands.
- Cmdr slots excluded, JTAC allowed and only for GCI and observation purposes. All ground units are AI controlled.
- Ground units being the target for both coalitions would probably end up being hidden in buildings, if players were to control them.

**********************************************************************************************************
The mission goes online once in a while. Dates and times are always announced several days prior to the event.

Operation Allied Assault

Situation:

The island of Saipan has been under American rule for decades. The islands of Tinian, Rota and Guam however, are subject to Chinese rule, in that same part of the Northern Pacific Ocean where the two vast nations meet in the middle of nowhere.

Over the last two weeks Chinese intelligence had been reporting more frequent military activities mainly carried out by US marine forces west of San Jose town, Saipan Island. In addition, and for the first time in years French SA342Mistrals backed by M-2000C's and Swedish AJS37's were also observed conducting low level flight maneuvers over and around the northwestern parts of Saipan Island.
It is no secret to the Chinese that the Americans have always been eager to get their hands on the neighbouring islands. However, the fact that US military forces haven't been so conspicuous with military operations, and shown barely any interest in even discussing the Mariana Islands issue, with Chinese diplomats as of late, has led to the Chinese feeling secure in the vicinity.

Not this time though... Something's up!

Covertly, Russian naval forces operating northeast of the Philippines had been alerted by the Chinese, and asked to swiftly proceed east to perhaps... Saipan!
The closest Chinese fleet would need four more days to reinforce their islands should the Americans and their Allies actually invade! The Russians answered the call being closer to the Mariana Islands without hesitation.

In the morning hours of the 26th of May 1990, American AAV-7's (Assault Amphibious Vehicles) waded through the calm Pacific waters between Saipan and Tinian Islands, in a sudden and daring manner, attempting to capture and hold Tinian Intl airbase. French SA342Mistrals operating from Saipan Intl airbase are tasked with providing cover for the assault, should Chinese Mi-24P's operating from Tinian Intl airbase attempt to intercept the ground forces.
Both islands have air defences consisting of AAA, radar and IR SAM's. Close air support carried out by British AV-8B's operating from the aircraft carrier, Tarawa, becomes available once American F/A-18C's operating from the aircraft carrier, Theodore Roosevelt, succeed in taking out the radar units of the two SA-6 SAM sites, the one Chinese developed HQ-7 SAM site and two SA-15's at Tinian Island.

American F-15C's and French M-2000C's operating from Saipan Intl airbase remain grounded as long as Chinese SAM sites at Tinian, are still operational (slots become available once the aforementioned targets are destroyed. Only then CAP is permissible for the Eagles and Mirages).

Swedish AJS37's operate from Saipan Intl airbase are primarily tasked with intercepting Russian warships west of Tinian Island, to prevent Ka-50's from any attacking attempts. In addition, and only after that's done, AJS37's can search and destroy other enemy ships, especially the Russian aircraft carrier, Kuznetsov, to sink all Su-33's along with it.

Russian Ka-50's operating from two Cruiser Moskva warships, west of Tinian Island, are tasked with attacking ground units at Saipan airbase, until Chinese Su-25T's arrive from Guam to strike hard and crush the invasion.

Chinese J-11A's, MiG-29A's and Chengdu J-7's (MiG-21's) are primarily tasked with intercepting Swedish AJS37's, British AV-8B's and American F/A-18C's.

Russian Su-33's are the superior fighters of the Red coalition and are the only fighters with access to R-27ER's (no ET's). J-11A's and MiG-29S's have access to R-27R's and no R-27ER's. R-27T's and R-73's are available for all.

American F-14A's have access to AIM-54A-Mk47 and AIM-7MH missiles and are tasked with fighter sweep operations across the region. (Watch out for air defences at the islands!)

A-10C's become operational once Rota Island is captured, to assist in taking out air defences at the last two airbases in the south at Guam Island.

AMRAAM's and AIM-9X's are disabled.

NOTE:
If a GCI operator is available, make sure you contact him and provide your assistance to wherever help is needed the most.
Teamwork is the key so make sure you stay on comms with other players even if a GCI operator is not available.

Check out the radio frequencies for comms below.

*******************************************************************************************************

Winning Conditions:

Red wins by...
- destroying the comms tower, all air defences at Saipan Intl airbase (see images) and all AAV-7's.
- or, if all (or most) Blue strikers are shot down to the extent it becomes impossible for Blue to win.

Blue wins...
- if all 4 Red airbases; Tinian Intl, Rota Intl, Andersen AFB and Antonio B. Won Pat Intl are captured.

* An airbase is captured once all air defences are destroyed (no transport (CTLD) operations required)

*******************************************************************************************************

RED (China and Russia) Objectives:

*** IMPORTANT Note! ***

All aircraft (helicopters included) are limited in numbers and can only operate from airbases (or aircraft carriers) where slots are available for them. Therefore, study the map carefully and check before you RTB to avoid landing at an airbase with no slots available for your aircraft.
However, if a player decides to or has to land for refueling and/or rearming and/or repairing purposes then he can do so. Just don't leave your aircraft there. Always RTB to where slots are available.

NOTE:
You don't have to shut down your engines to save the aircraft. You only need to park it (not on the runway!) before you leave the slot and it becomes available at that airbase.

*******************************************************************************************************

Objectives' Overview:

* The enemy is trying to capture all islands by destroying air defences at our airbases!
* Attacking and destroying vital structures and all air defences at Saipan Intl airbase (see images) wins us the day!
* The more enemy aircraft we destroy the higher the chances of crushing the invasion, should we fail to strike Saipan.

*******************************************************************************************************

Su-33's:

- Your top priority targets are F-14A's operating from the aircraft carrier, Theodore Roosevelt.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
J-11A's, MiG-29A's and Chengdu J-7's (MiG-21's):

- Intercepting AJS37's (operate from Saipan Intl airbase) is a top priority task for Chengdu J-7's mainly.
- Intercepting AV-8B's (operate from the aircraft carrier, Tarawa) is a top priority task for MiG-29S's.
- J-11A's provide cover for the two and assist where they are needed the most.

- Watch out for French SA342Mistrals patrolling the area!
- Remember! Hunting the assault amphibious vehicles is your target and NOT the Gazelles!

Note:
If enemy AAV-7's make it to Tinian, it becomes difficult for your to spot them in the forests on their way to capture the airbase. Attack swiftly and accurately! Don't let the French Gazelles distract you!

Check out the briefing images to see the routes enemy AAV-7's will take, should they reach the island.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BLUE (USA, UK, France and Sweden) Objectives:

*** IMPORTANT Note! ***

All aircraft (helicopters included) are limited in numbers and can only operate from airbases (or aircraft carriers) where slots are available for them. Therefore, study the map carefully and check before you RTB to avoid landing at an airbase with no slots available for your aircraft.

Objectives' Overview:

* Attack all 4 enemy airbases: Tinian Intl, Rota Intl, Andersen AFB and Antonio B. Won Pat Intl.
* Destroy all air defences at an airbase to capture it.
* Rota Intl is the only airbase with weapons available for our jets once captured!
* Also, A-10C's at Rota Intl airbase become available once the airbase is ours.
* Study the briefing images carefully to understand the objectives better.
* AAA's, IR SAM's (SA-13 Strela's) and the radar unit of the many SAM sites are the targets.
* SAM launchers are not the target. However, you can destroy them.
* Ammo trucks and other types of trucks are not the target. However, you can destroy them.
* If the enemy strikes Saipan Intl airbase and destroys vital structures we lose the airbase.
* Losing Saipan Intl airbase would force us to retreat and taste the bitterness of a severe loss.
* We are the attackers! Nevertheless, don't forget to defend Saipan Intl airbase should the enemy attempt any strikes.

Awesome, Alpi! Great Briefing and great Scenario!
Any chance to move the Comms Tower at Saipan a little off the airport movement area, like not next to the Runway? Not all of us are pro-pilots (yet) and a simple go-around could be disastrous...
Like, on the other side of the taxiway next to the Terminal? Or even better, just South of the Runway at the Airport border fence...

Wouldn't have thought it could be a problem to be honest. You should see how regular Cold War players maneuver. They pull crazy stunts sometimes even with a damaged aircraft while landing 🙂

I'll move it away a bit, no problem.

Unfortunately, Mariana Islands doesn't run on my rig 😪 so I think I will look forward for other maps (Syria again someday?).

Oh, really?! I thought with only a spec of terrain compared to other maps, everyone would be able to fly on the map. Man, I almost did the same mission (more or less) in Caucasus, but never thought Mariana Islands would give anyone any problems. And by the time I wanted to start working on the mission, Mariana Islands was released so I thought, well, here we go.

Darn it, mate! That's unfortunate. So it would be hard to get the numbers for it, I guess, especially during the summer holidays.

I'll wait a bit longer, which was my intention anyway to give players the chance for reading the long briefing before the mission goes online. Now I doubt we'll have 20 players for the reasons mentioned above 😉

I'll update the second post soon, so players know how many slots and aircraft via type of aircraft are available.

you should not get a false impression: it runs for everyone, and moreso for anyone who can handle Syria or PG in any shape or form.

Only for some it does give some microfreezes atm at the coastlines for those traversing at extreme speeds depending on preload and DCS proprietary shader settings (aso) - and for a minority loadcrashes in the very beginning for those who have not yet populated  their DCS caches by multiple load attempts (mostly if DCS is running on an HDD and/or low and/or lowspeed RAM).

None of which should be mistaken for a prevalent or global problem state.

The mission goes online on Saturday, 31.07.2021. The mission kicks off around 1930 zulu.

No sign-ups needed. Try and stick with the objective, please.

We'll see how it goes and then decide whether to have sign-ups for the next round or not, and lock the server with a password for that matter.

Blue aircraft do. Red can't have them in the first place, so this doesn't really make any sense. On a side note, if I can quickly use google translate, then surely you can, mate. Easier for everyone else.

Any password for server?

No. Probably the next time I put the mission online though. And then signups will be mandatory.

@Alpenwolf
So i found number of issues with test run of mission

1.
A10s can spawn on rota, while its red. You die getting shot up by ground units.

2.

No Aim7s for F14s

Please add missiles to second Aim7MHs
image.png

3.
No fuel tanks for F18s Use FPU8 instead
image.png

4. (small one)
Turn on ICLS for carrier landings? would  make it easier to line up properly, just mention  in briefing which channels to set
image.png

5. (small one)
two CV71 Roosevelts' They will confuse F14 RIO Jester, (which radio freq/ datalink to connect?), maybe swap one for CV72 Lincoln ,73 washington, 75 truman?  They are still supercarriers. With all bells and whistles 😛

6.

M2000C got enforced INS alignment and drift, which forces them to do 8min alignment on the ground, which is bit unfair, considering all other jets have quick alignment (F14, F18s)
image.png
7. (small thing)
i also noticed you set F14 flare count 20 flares 40 chaff, but unfortunately due to bug, you are making f14s carry less countermeasures. Jester doesnt know how to change them during rearmament there for you are making F14 players be stuck with 20 flares and 70 chaff. Could you change Flare count in mission editor to at least 40 flares, 20 chaff?

Cheers for epic mission!

The Allied Assault Manifesto:

Part 1: Aircraft and Weapons

Aircraft selection and weaponry in this mission was probably the best part about this, the addition of r73s evened out of the playing field (Blue has the BVR advantage while Red can CQB) a massive issue is of course the 60 phoenixes (I am aware they were bugged into infinity but 60 is still an amazing amount considering the relative ease at which they can be used effectively). If we were to however continue with this amount of phoenixes for the next mission maybe it is possible the reds can get 30 odd R77s to ensure that we can compete with a tomcat in a 1v1 situation. Nothing else on the mission side I would change. For the players however, I felt as if the MiG-21s were almost entirely useless in assisting the higher gen fighters whatso ever, perhaps it is possible to add MiG-21s on Tinian because of the long ferry time of a 21 from the Island of Guam to Tinian/Saipan and to a lesser extent from Rota itself. Also we could make do with more Ka-50 slots and maybe just wiping the Hinds in their entirety. Another supplement to the phoenix abundancy is increasing the amount of Red aircraft albeit by a minor amount (maybe 5 more J11s and 10 more MiG-29s). It has to be said that the amount of weapons for red were adequate and I saw no need for changes on that front.

Part 2: Communication and Picture

The primary issue with Red's radar picture is that it is very heavily dependent on cruisers like the Moskva to supply a picture through the GCI interface. This made it so that there was no way for us to have a fighting chance after losing our GCI. Perhaps more EWRs are needed just so that is is not absolutely necessary to have a) have a GCI and b) a break down in cohesion after the loss of our radar picture.

Part 3: Conclusion

This mission as I'm sure many think has been very fun and is a welcome change to combine 80s aircraft with actual good mission design that has areas to fight rather than the entirety of either teams hiding in their SAM nets like was the case in Tiberias and *cough* *cough* Blue Flag Modern. The mission had objectives that were explained well through out the brief the only issue arising was that people would skip the briefing and just go startup their plane with not a fucking clue as to what their class of aircraft was supposed to do. But alas, I did have a lot of fun and am waiting for the mission to go online soon. Thanks Alpen!

1:

Which is why I just added more Red aircraft. Exactly my thoughts on that one.

Mi-24's remain all the same. The players didn't do much, although the AAV-7's are literally sitting ducks while crossing the channel between the two islands.

The number of Phoenixes remain as it is. Some other change was made to compensate for that.

2:

EWR's strength has been increased increased.

I was doing GCI for Red shortly, then had to step back and just monitor the whole thing.

I spent an hour trying to get the Hornet properly aligned with no luck.

I will test some more and report back.

Remember map is set in 1990s = no satelites = no GPS. You cant set your INS to IFA, you have to set it to NAV. So keep in mind that ur nav system will degrade over time and position updates are required
