VR: Zoomed-in sights are "cross eyed" on Odssey+

Blackeye

Recommended Posts

When using the gunner sight in the low zoom level everything is fine.

However when switching to the high zoom level, the picture in the left eye moves slightly up and the one in the right moves slightly down. This obviously leads to a "cross eyed" effect in the vertical or rather a doubled picture that jumps depending on which eye you concentrate.

The only way to use it for me is to close one eye ATM.

This was introduced with the latest update in open beta 2.7.5.10869.

Hard- & software: Odyssey+, SteamVR 1.18.7,  GTX 1070 (471.68)

Not sure how provide more evidence as this is most likely hardware dependent. Perhaps other people with similar or different VR hardware can chime in.

Hi,

can you screenshot your vr settings and let me know if you are using shared parser in the autoexec ?

I can not reproduce on my reverb G2 zoom seems normal for me.

please include a short track replay of the problem so I am testing the same circumstance.

thank you

Motion Smoothing is off in SteamVR and Advanced Supersample Filtering is on.

And the Track file

Weird the forum ate my text and I can't seem to edit it in:

No extra settings for DCS in the SteamVR per app setting, i.e. use global settings and 100% scaling.

It is VERY much crosseyed for me as well. Tried setting my pupil distance to as small as possible, mechanical stops me at 60mm and its STILL nauseating. Its probably closer to around 50mm.

Heres my settings as well. It looks severely distorted too; when you turn your head, the FOV squishes really bad and goes from circular to oval.

AAAND I believe I found a temp workaround for it - went to get a screen grab of both eyes, so went into VR settings and mirror BOTH eyes in Mirror Eye Source. I also have Crop to Rectangle ticked as well, so hopefully that explains something. Selecting render to right eye and crop to rectangle gives me a WAY zoomed in view in the eyepiece.

Unfortunately that doesn't fix the issue I have - however with set mirror to both I can take a better screenshot of it:

zoom3.png

In 3x view the bottom (almost) align - apparently my eyes can deal with that or it corresponds to some offset in the headset.

ZOOM10.png

Zoomed in however there's a very visible vertical distance between left and right side.

yeah that looks about right...my workaround worked for me, but it did raise a few other issues with the VR options in DCS, so it could be a few other things as well, and thats not to say that it wont get bugged again either. Ill give it some more play time this afternoon and tinker around some more.

Later edit - NO IT DID NOT WORK. Thought it did when I looked, but turned out I just got used to it and had some eye relief. Now I have a headache from staring at this crosseyed.

Ill post a video shortly that "hopefully" you can watch in 3D and you can get the gist of what it looks like. Cant tell you how to do it, just know you can do it. And here are my vr settings in DCS.

This screenshot alone should warrant some

more investigation by the ED VR team, please .

Have the same problems. Applies not only to door gunner, but also vr zoom.

Tried testing "force_cross_eye_recovery_tool = true", but setting it correctly for x10 zoom completely breaks the normal cockpit view.

I have this issue with Reverb G2, both VR zoom levels are extremely cross-eyed and unusable.

You can always close one eye as a workaround, that's what you would have to do with the real thing anyway.
