Just how much can this beast take??? Low-alt Honeybadgers?

Ok, so I thought it was time get get myself some aereal gunnery skill; got a dumb Hind in the air with orders to fly low, and weapons hold; loaded mine up with only 30mm and maneuvered myself behind her. Single-fire (low-rate, single short depress) shots only, to get a feeling for the dynamics. Missed, of course. Again and again, as was to be expected

So finally I hit her! Hind doesn't care except try to evade me. 10 close-range hits later, she starts to wobble slightly, and continues on. After hit 17 she lazily drops a pylon, which looks suspiciously like a one-finger salute to me, flying on. Hind don't care. On hit 22, she drops another pylon, and she still don't care. Round 27 (!) hits her squarely on the rotor head, and she goes down.

... twenty frigging seven 30 mm rounds? Man, I knew they are tough birds, but... Admittedly, I'm not a great shot (yet), but taking 27 slugs at close range is... very Russian? At least that's what Natalia, my Russian friend claims (she also claims that she - like any real woman - can take 30 slugs, but those usually are Stolichnaya Elit caliber - and I have to believe her because my recollection usually drops out somewhere in the very low double digits).

So, was I just unlucky, a bad shot, is the Hind's damage model a bit off, or all of the above?

I like the Hind crew standing beside the cockpits, roasting marshmallows.  Just like back in camp.

Well in Metal Gear Solid a Hind can take about fifteen Stinger hits until it explodes... So 20x 30mm burst seems legit. Legends say that the armor is so thick that lasers from the year 2050 are necessary to really damage this beast.

edit: The USS Zumwalt railgun seems effective too, but only when hitting the engine area or the gearbox.

Everything important is tough and there's a lot of void space where there isn't anything important. I've had flights in the hind where I've been utterly eviscerated by BMP rounds and make it home. Other times a single lucky 12.7 will knock something important out. Sometimes a manpad will hit me square and I fly along just fine, other times it hits me and reduces me to a flaming comet. I've been hit by tank guns and kept going, other times a single 30mm burst will knock my tail rotor off. It all massively depends on where the hits land, and there's a factor of randomness to what actually gets damaged.

In the provided example firing from the rear, I'd put a solid chance a lot of rounds passed into the empty troop compartment, lost energy then bounced off the titanium tubs around all the important bits.

But of course the easy answer of early access aswell.
