There will be some improvements in terms of performance, regarding the 60km mode.

Any hope about having returning echos of Tanks for example? Is This an available feature?

That I am not sure of. TBH my knowledge in the Viggen is much smaller than in the Tomcat (I know, shame on me heh), so I am not sure if or how that worked irl. This is maybe a question @Jediteo can answer better. Definitely worth investigating though, but again, I would just brabble something trying to give you a serious answer.

Unless I'm misunderstanding....I can see tank/vehicles (especially in groups) perfectly well in the Viggen from ~20km out. In fact, I can see them well enough that I use the radar to spot targets for the RB-75 because screw that crappy sight.

I think oil platforms are likely a DCS-side issue since afaik they are built into the map and not recognized as "units" by the engine.

This is exactly what I thought as well, however I would need to double check on the oil platforms. It could very well be that you are right, although buildings are also recognized by the radar. Maybe they are a type of building we do not account for, but I am wildly guessing now.

I did tests over Caucasus on the dark shore, perhaps it's me but i can not see tanks even if i tune with finesse the radar, because the ground appears very dark and tanks appears always dark on the radar (no WHT mode).
I'll try again.

The ground shouldn’t appear dark. You have to tune down the gain so the ground is bright to be able to see tanks and other veichles with the radar.

Other than tuning the gain, also make sure that you are in logarithmic gain mod and not in linear mode.

other way around!

ground units show up better in linear mode (with the gain reduced)

while ships etc show quite nicely in logarithmic (which is the default)

I can see tank as active ones. If they are "objects" i can not see them.

Uh, that may also be a DCS core issue? @IronMike

Is there a way to define an antenna elevation cursor? mentally like i do? or is there another way?

You can see the antenna elevation on the radar scope if you have IR-RB selected on the armament panel (or after pressing the IR missile fast select button? I'm not sure on that one...), otherwise you can still tweak it but you can't see what the antenna elevation is.

edit: also, I haven't had a problem detecting stuff in the default log mode regardless of whether it's ships or tanks. Guess I have to play with linear mode more.

Could be, I have to ask @Super Grover, whether statics are detected or not. While doing Jester Lantirn he may have come across the same or a similar issue, iirc.

If you change radar to linear mode, and decrease the gain, it's possible to find vehicles quite easily.

I've posted above, no problem to see active tanks but not possible to see "objects" tanks.

However thx for your help 👌

Yeah there is nothing you can do about it, it is an oversight on our part that we haven't increased the RCS for static ground objects accordingly.

My pleasure. 🙂

PS: we are currently aiming at including the fix for this with the 60km performance update.

nowadays what are the biggest differences/ lacks between, lets say, 15-30km and 60 km?

I would like to add that your daily presence on "our beloved Viggen forum" is a great pleaseure, make me feel the Viggen is alive 🥰

Many Viggen drivers get a big performance hit (reduced framerate and laggy controls) when the radar is set to 60 km.  Not 30 or 120, just 60.  It's weird.

"Subsonic is below Mach 1, supersonic is up to Mach 5. Above Mach 5 is hypersonic. And reentry from space, well, that's like Mach a lot."

Might be out of the scope for this update, but getting some of the effects on the CRT display in this video would be awesome. And somewhat annoying at time I'm sure, but more immersive.
