Fortress Europe - WWII Multiplayer mission

Today I’d like to introduce ‘Fortress Europe’ an epic PvP/ PvE WWII multiplayer mission I’m releasing for DCS world. I was inspired by those terrific missions Philstyle is running on his Storm of War server, so I decided to create something like that, but using the Channel map, and beefed up with some of my own ideas.

The plan was to create a massive WWII playground. The mission runs for 6 hours, and you can jump into any aircraft at any point, and you’ll still have plenty to do even if you’re the only human player on the server.

There are 3 main ground targets assigned to each side, but if you like, you can just roam the countryside looking for road and railway traffic, or ground units near airfields, industrial areas, or ships near the coast. For those who prefer air to air combat, 3 large raids will take off on each side during the mission. You can either escort the friendlies, or intercept the enemy bombers, as directed by your ground controller. There are also 6 smaller scale missions carried out by the AI on each side that are randomized, meaning they will not always happen at the same time if you replay the mission. These are smaller formations attacking secondary targets. On top of this, AI patrols are taking off throughout the mission, and fighters are scrambled when an airfield is under attack. So even if you’re the only human player on the server, you need to watch your six.

There is also a photo recon mission available on each side that enables you to take actual photos of the targets.

If you feel lonely, you have the option to fly with an AI wingman.

If you still find yourself with nothing to do despite all of this happening, you can tune in to the BBC or Radio Berlin for a little entertainment.

Oh, did I mention the mission is fully voiced? There are nearly a hundred custom radio messages that will bring your ground controllers to life.(Special thanks to Olaf binder and Edward Sutherland for the voice overs!)

Play it all alone, or as a coop with some friends, or run it on a server with dozens of players, ‘Fortress Europe’ will keep you entertained and offer something to do any time you jump into your aircraft of choice.

Also, I’m quite inexperienced with multiplayer missions, I’ve always been a SP guy, so if you find any problems or have some suggestions how to make it better, please let me know.

Good hunting!

thank you for all the work you put in to it!  I will surely check it out. Lately I've been hanging around on the growlingsidewinder MP server, which is also Channel based, and I find it a lot easier to orient myself on this map vs. Normandy.  thank you again!

p.s.  Yeah, what's up with the CGI blur effect at 2:23? 😄 😄 Doesn't look like it's showing Mossie's underwear...

Any chance to have later P-47D variants in the mission?

F/A-18, F-16, F-14, M-2000C, A-10C, AV-8B, AJS-37 Viggen, F-5E-3, F-86F, MiG-21bis, MiG-15bis, L-39 Albatros, C-101 Aviojet, P-51D, Spitfire LF Mk. IX, Bf 109 4-K, UH-1H, Mi-8, Ka-50, NTTR, Normandy, Persian Gulf... and not enough time to fully enjoy it all

How does this work? Do I need to be online to run it?

It's best used that way, if someone hosts it on a server, but you can play it as a single mission too - but then my single missions would be better suited for that purpose.

Nah, it's set in the spring of 1944, so the early D-30 is a more accurate choice.

I’ve been playing online. Really good but the flak over those French ports Is murderous!

Hello, I love your work, but every time I play one of your MP missions over the Channel I get hit directly with what seems the first burst of flak.  Even at 20 000 feet.  First time, every time.  There is no fore-warning of flak going off around me.  The first shot does catastrophic damage and it's game over.  Feels a little unrealistic to me.

Yep, though this isn't mission specific, it's simply the current AI Flak snipers at work. I'm suffering the exact same issue in the cross channel campaigns.  ED is currently tweaking the Flak - they have specifically mentioned low level Flak,  but I'm not sure if this particular behaviour is under the microscope. Let's hope so.

Any idea where? I’ve followed a lot of rail lines and ain’t seen anything

are you talking about the civilian traffic?

I don't think you can destroy it.. at least when I tried to shoot up a train it just continued chugging along like nothing happened.

yup, that's my experience. On the Channel map there's a bunch of little civilian boats floating around = can't destroy them. The same thing goes for the civilian trains, i.e. objects generated as part of the "civilian traffic".

If you want a train to destroy then you need to create one in ME with cargo/wagon carts, then find the suitable railroad track, place the train on it, give it way points, etc etc.

Hmm on the Channel map I have

routinely  taken out random trains
