DCS VR - Windows 11

Then how do I get 90FPS in the menu and solid 60 in game?  Same session...

I just ask because before I would never get solid 60FPS between 45 and 90.  Ever.  Unless of course I was set to 60hz...  but then I would never get 90 or 45...  It would be 30 or 60.

I have no idea, I can only tell you it hasn’t changed. And that some other factor must have. It could have been config , background tasks drivers etc…too many combinations to assess… but reprojection /motion smoothing isn’t one of them.

Did they change the way that reprojection works in W11??

I did a fresh clean install because my Sabrent rocket 4 died...  :((((((  Super :(((((  But fresh Win11 and frsh OS build in general so... whatevs...

I'm running a Reverb G2 at 90Hz.  I get 90 in the menu screen.  I used to get a solid average of 42-55 frames in sim before, which of course would lock mostly at 45.  Occasionally a touch lower or sometimes 90 if I look to the sky.  this is in SP.  Not sure about Frametimes...  I checked when tuning but don't recall them specifically.  Now I get a solid 60...  I am not at 60hz...  Again 90frames in the menu.  Don't get me wrong...  All sorts of things have changed.  Drivers, OS, game settings, VR settings...  But before this there was NO way to get 60FPS unless it somehow was randomly running exactly that framerate solidly or I was running the headset at 60hz (which I can't do because I don't like the feeling and slight flickering).  So...

Did they change it so it will run at 30/45/60/90 instead of only 45/90 with reprojection on??

What are you using to tell you what your framerate is? e.g. the DCS overlay itself?, fpsvr?, an nvidia/amd overlay?

Using fpsvr, on an AMD Ryzen 3600 with Radeon 6800XT it shows me 45fps (occasionally 44 or 46 weirdly) or 90. Never 60. This is with a Reverb G1 (Windows 11)

I have sometimes had my G1 drop to 60hz when I start WMR - it gives me a warning and needs a PC reboot to fix. Pretty rare, just a few times a year. I wonder if it dropped to 60hz after you started DCS, not sure how it could happen otherwise?

I tried both Windows 10 and Windows 11 in a lot of different games and sveral different builds. Although I dont not make out that big of a difference I tend to see tiny stuttering in Windows 11 in some situations which I do not see in Windows 10. 3D Mark Firestrike gives around 37500 score for my system in Windows 10 and 29500 in Windows 11 with latest build and patches (Microsoft Windows 11 update and AMD Chipset xx.506).

Sticking with Windows 10 for some time to come.

Cheers

to get to 60 you have to force it to run at 60hz in WMR

@speed-of-heat that's the thing...  you say that :)...  but multiple times I see 90 FPS in the menu (indicating that the headset is indeed at 90hz) and then in the cockpit see 60FPS rock solid.  Same boot, same instance of DCS (not closing it and re-opening etc...).  I'm not dumb friend 🙂 I'm seeing the FPS lock at 45, 60 and 90.  It used to be 45 almost always with the occasional 90 if I looked to the sky in a clear map.  Now I get 60 most of the time, 45 sometimes and still 90 occasionally.  The headset is at 90hz.  I always check that by visually checking the WMR homespace environment.  I put the headset on before I start DCS and take a good look at a light colored area (generally the white roof and the sky) and I can very distinctly see when it's at 60hz.  I can see it flickers just a tad.  I make sure it's running at 90 and check again.

I'll check it out this weekend.  So far steps to reproduce would go something like "Install win11, Install drivers, Install Steam with WMR/SteamVR, Install DCS, Set steamVR settings to allow reprojection but not force (normally I would force but I just wanted to see what the new build would do first), Setup room, run DCS, Set all my options the way I like but specifically graphics was just press "VR preset" and I may have turned off grass and turned tree distance all the way up, enable VR, restart DCS, press Ctrl+Prt Scrn, See 90, instant action free flight and see 60.  Think "That's different..." and then look around and get 45 and 90 a couple times but mostly 60.  Stare at the clouds a bit...  Try to rip of an aileron in a 514MPH dive...  fuck around..  find out...  Hop out thinking..  "Sweet...  I wonder if they changed something that made that happen..."

Ask peeps here.

I mean OK there may have been one or two more settings but in general it was super basic and I just wanted to get DCS up and running so I can take it further in the future.  Only Caucasus installed...  Was flying the TF51.

I'll try to check settings this weekend and see if anything stands out if I get time.

Hi all,

I just "upgraded" to Win11 and didn't notice any impact on perfs (my rig specs are in my sig.)

But pay attention, when switching to Win11, HAGS went active by default and I also had to disable again the virtual monitor pre-allocation (not sure if it is still needed though...)

Tried Win11 a few weeks ago and I’ve reverted to Win10. My rig Is a 3700x, 32Gb, RTX3080 and Reverb G2.

In singleplayer performance was fine, but in Multiplayer almost unplayable with constant crashes. Tried everything and put in lots of time to get it to run normal, but eventually reverted.

So I would wait a bit 😉

Went to win 11 on two rigs and 2 VR sets. No problems at all with the Rift S. BTW I also prefer 11 over 10 by a lot now for various reasons. YMMV.

The Quest 2 was unplayable (ASW did not work) until I found the workaround for it on a youtube channel or page or something. What the hell  it works. Apparently the bug has been known about since at least October.

The Workaround.
Open Oculus Tray Tool. Usually "C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-diagnostics\OculusDebugTool.exe"

Click the service drop down and select "Toggle Console Window Viability"

Do not close or minimize the console window, just let it keep on scrolling info. Run the game over the top of it.

Do the reverse when finished if you want to get rid of the window.

I do not know why, but it works.

So this weekend I got my 12700KF and installed it together with the 3070 Ti and G2sin Windows 10. Configured everything for IL-2 and worked great. Then, before setting up DCS, I decided to update to Windows 11 and this is where things started to go bad in the VR front. IL-2 lost frames and although I was still using reprojection, the game started to lock to 60 hz losing this feature and having more stutter.

Then in DCS the CPU was being used at 10% with frametimes in the upper 20s despite having SteamVR at 60% resolution. Even in simple mission like free flights.

Went back to Windows 10 and IL-2 was fixed but I’m yet to try DCS as for some reason it forced me to download it again.

@Al-Azraq be sure to disable HAGS!

Sounds like a problem i also experienced after upgrading to W11. I had some problems installing it and between installs i forgot to turn off HAGS. HAGS on made also my fps locked arround 60fps.

Maybe it was that and rushed the formatting too much. I'm already on Windows 10 but I'm thinking about trying our W11 again, although it would be very annoying to finding out that even with HAGS disabled my performance will still be bad. Really don't know what to do.

Also just make sure you have Virtualisation Based Security is switched off , by default an upgrade will have it off, and a clean install will have it turned on

Quote

open Settings, click on Privacy & Security on the left pane, and you'll be greeted by a list of security features, Windows permissions, and App permissions. Click on the top one that says "Windows Security," and then click on Device security from the list that appears after that. Then click on "Core isolation details," which should be coloured. This leaves you with a toggle for "Memory Integrity," which you need to turn off and restart your PC for it to take effect.

Will do that! Now that I'm on W10 again I'll set up DCS and check the performance on VR here. Then maybe I go to W11 again and see if it works better with HAGS and this setting you are mentioning disabled.

HAGS is still awful in VR (in my experience) it seems to fight with ASW/Motion Smoothing for a suboptimal experience.
