V1Rotate Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Hey. I've just bought the X52 Pro (and trackir4) in preparation for the sim but I was wondering how to setup the X52 Pro. Is the general consensus to use the ingame assignments or the sst software? I've also read various threads about the .Dat and .Pr0 profile extensions being incompatible with various saitek software versions. The .Pr0 appears to be the latest format. However, what software versions are people using and are there any profiles out there that you would be willing to share to the community? (latest version of the *.Pr0 would be ideal!! :)) i7 930@ 3.8GHz, Corsair H50-1, Asus P6X58D-E, 6gb Patriot Ram, ATI 5850 1 Gb, Antec 300, F3 1GB HDD, Corsair 24" Dell 2408WFP. ZaltysZ Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Bind 2 buttons: the first - "E" and the second - "Ctrl+G". Press them both at the same time. Game may interpret it correctly, but also it may interpret it as "Ctrl+E". I always try to bind frequently used functions directly to buttons via in game settings and try to avoid binding multikey commands via programming software. Wir sehen uns in Walhalla.
DTWD Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Use the SST, you can have several profiles and modes all setup, it's all very good stuff. Make sure you get the lasest software and drivers off the Saitek website. You will probably find it easier to bite the bullet and do your own profile, I have downloaded several for LOMAC and find they don't quite work how I want and change one or two options, but that then impacts on other buttons and so you change them. Before you know it you have changed a load of keys that you might as well have just started a fresh. Regards Paul Regards [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
V1Rotate Posted November 18, 2008 Author Posted November 18, 2008 Also I dont have rudder pedals yet, and I also saw that some of the profiles listed in the other X52 thread dont use the main throttle as the collective, they use the little LH thumb slider. How do you guys have these two mapped? I was thinking that the thumb wheel near to the clutch may be a better bet for yaw (rudder). I've never liked twist grips for yaw as its normally too sensitive and you cant easily hold a constant setting. Clearly, collective is a different issue, and I would have thought it were better to use the main throttle for that. One further question, while I'm at it... Is there any way of removing the endstop throttle friction in the X52 throttle (the Afterburner and idle/thrust reverser detents)? I'm not sure I want them present on the collective. i7 930@ 3.8GHz, Corsair H50-1, Asus P6X58D-E, 6gb Patriot Ram, ATI 5850 1 Gb, Antec 300, F3 1GB HDD, Corsair 24" Dell 2408WFP. nemises Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 I have bound directly in game (defining "button 6" as a modifier, button 6 beeing the Pinkie button). The down side to this so far , is that I cannot now setup up a TIR center or PTT button on the HOTAS by using SST, as if you load any profile, BS will no longer recognise Button 6, and you cannot bind the STT "shift" state as a modifier in teh game. The reason I used the in game control set instead of SST, was that I read it somewhere on here that it was the preferred method. Also, the BS controls section is greatly improved and VERY functional and flexible. however, I think I might try setting up an SST version of my controls and comparing them to the direct bind ones to see if they feel differnt or if one has Issues (so far no issues on the Direct bind with about 13 hours in air time logged). Hopefully the SST version will work just as well which means I can have my BS HOTAS setup + extras (such as TIR Disable / ebnable, TIR Center and TS PTT). At the moment I have had to bind TS PTT to the right foot toe brake on my Pedals.

I always try to bind frequently used functions directly to buttons via in game settings and try to avoid binding multikey commands via programming software. I'm not sure about this, but if you make "Ctrl+G" a macro (rather than just a key press) it is un-interuptable and should avoid this problem. What i have found a problem is the Saitek programming software not picking up the difference between LEFT and RIGHT SHIFT/CTRL/ALTERNATE. As lots of Black Sharks key presses are LEFT/RIGHT specific, the only work around is to re-map those controls before adding them to your x52 profile - not much fun. I have bound directly in game (defining "button 6" as a modifier, button 6 beeing the Pinkie button). Are you sure? I thought i did this last night when I set a button to 'unprogrammed' in Saitek's profile editor so I could map via the in-game controls menu. I will check this. Yes, when you want to just press that button (once). Problems start when you want to hold it and want to hold two buttons at once. Despite other problems this reason is enough for me to assign keys in game. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
SunDown Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 I've got a X52 Pro and I'm getting a little worried reading through the forums. Originally I had planned on just using the in-game interface. Now I do have Left Sides collective on the way, so I wont even map anything to the throttle. I'm trying to keep it real and just bind the real commands to my cyclic and collective. Nothing more. Also, the whole trim thing has me worried. Have to quickly center the stick after trimming? what the heck is that all about? Anyway, I'm waiting on the western release so I dont have the sim yet. So should I be worried? C Co 6-6 CAV USLANTCOM
crazysundog Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 I wouldn't worry at all sundown; centering the cyclic (and rudder pedals dont forget!) has a natural feeling, and it doesn't need to be instantaneous!! If you are a little slow, you'll just introduce a little bad input...too much forward cyclic, or too much left yaw for example... I'm getting pretty good at using the trim function now, and I can hold a decent hover (without autohover) just by using the dampeners and trim button!!
strannick Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 i am picking up my saitek x52pro tomorrow, (100 bucks used from craigslist!). what is the sst, and is there an sst link?

Der Moloch Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 I have the tried the latest official software and in addition 6.1.15.64. I have also loaded and activated a DCS profile from lockonfiles, yet it is very confusing. For example, if I press the trigger all the way through it should release the weapon, but all that happens is my rudder twisting to the left.
hyperfighter Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 all i can say is the sst works fine, so your problems can be 3 things: 1 the profile is incorrect 2 problems can occur when installing newer saitek drivers/sst if done wrong 3 you are not using it correctly http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=39441&highlight=hyperfighter
