Strange behavior of HUD symbols for rockets

Recommended Posts

When I switch to ANF master mode and nose down onto the target, the "box" jumps up and down. Why does this happen? Is it something to do with dive angle?

Thanks in advanced.

I find that I need to maintain a certain a dive angle to make it stable. Strange.

If you set the QFE exactly correct for the target, does it still jump? I think you're seeing radar ranging override the altitude setting.

"Subsonic is below Mach 1, supersonic is up to Mach 5. Above Mach 5 is hypersonic. And reentry from space, well, that's like Mach a lot."

The QFE is correct and the radar is at A0 so I guess the system is acting funny without sufficient diving angle.

I found this on manual page 283:

Radar ranging.
For some weapon modes, when in master mode ANF, the radar will range the distance to
the target if the triangulated range is about ≤ 7000 m.
In modes DIVEBOMB, ARAK (rocket pods), AKAN A/G (gun pods in air-to-ground) and
RB75 (AGM-65) the radar range may be used before trigger unsafe, assuming the bank
angle is less than 45°. In LEVEL BOMB the trigger must first be unsafe. If the bank angle is
more than 45°, radar ranging is enabled after the aircraft has a bank angle less than 45°.

I think even you turn the radar at a0 mode, in the rocket attack the ajs37 is still using radar ranging. So the strange behavior is caused by inaccurate radar ranging at low dive angle

As far as I know, A0/A1/A2 setting has nothing to do with radar ranging.  In ANF mode usually the radar display is disabled regardless of the A0/A1/A2 setting.
