"The Cedar and the Rooster : A Mirage Story" is a fictional story-based 10 mission campaign for the Mirage 2000C, fully voiced-over, taking place in the Middle East.

Situation :

February 1993. Despite the end of the civil war in 1990, Lebanon is remaining in a unsettled situation. Militias, directed undercover by Syria and Iran, are agitating the country.

Seems really interesting. I'm not flying the Mirage at the moment, but will download the two Campaigns to fly them once I'm back on the Mirage (probably when the Falklands Map gets released). Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hi Wagner !

Thanks for your comment.

Was it only freeze or crash ? Syria map is very demanding in term of hardware ressources (far more than the other maps). I also experienced regular freezes (and more rarely some crashes) on it, never happened on the other maps. But the build of the missions themselves are as simple as it gets to avoid problems.

Nevertheless tell me if you have any other trouble.

What do you mean by "had to do a game repair" ?

Same thing with mission 07 (harder one 😉), the game freeze then close.

I'll test Syria map with other missions, but I never had problems when flying on BlueFlag Syria 80s server.

Enjoyed your campaign. Indeed mirages were deployed in Jordan at least once (during Operation Chammal back in 2014 at Azraq Air Base)

Liked 3 missions: CAS with JTAC, intercepting Mig-25 and escorting Yak-52 🙂 Kiriyat Shmona is indeed a small Civil aircraft airfield in real life

I only wish there were more aerial engagement missions involving same generation enemy fighters

I've just started your campaign and I've done the first three missions.

Pretty entertaining. Mission 3 was a real challenge as I'm not that good at A/A refueling, and after chasing that mig, we don't have a lot of room to make our refueling.

The only negative point to me is the lack of custom voice made by real people. I know it's probably a lot of work to have those lines said by a real person, but it really help for the immersion.

If you choose in the futur to try to had real voice, I will be glad to help you to make a French pilot. It's something I would like to do, and as french, I already had the right accent and the wrong prononciation that almost all French have when they talk on English 🤣

I've started a playthough of this campaign. If people want to see some of those mission before they try it it by themselves :

Thanks R.MES for all the time and effort you've put on this campaign. I'll definitely keep an eye on your futur release.

Hello o-Tomcat-o !

Thank you for your post. It's really useful for me to have some feedback.

Concerning the A/A refueling, yes it's hard, needing some (tens of ?) hours to master but an essantial skill 😉

Concerning the voices, you are absolutly right. Of course it's far more immersive to have real voices but it takes too much time (by the way robot voices are also a bunch of work but a bit less ...). I suppose it's mandatory for a paid campaign. But for a free one, robot voices are bearable (and better than nothing ... I hope). This campaign took me several months and as you can guess it's not my main job 😉 ... So I have to make some compromises. But I keep in mind your offer ... we never know !

Thank you so much for your video, it made my day. It's nice to see another player flying one mission I made and to hear your live comments (by the way, your radio alti seems off ... but it's useful especially to respect a required AGL like for the show of presence). I'm looking forward to see the next ! Besides your voice, if I need a video trailer I know who to ask now 🙂

Waiting for my next campaign (maybe one day ...) you could try my previous one. Shorter but sharing the same mindset.

Thanks again and good flight !

(edit : I took the liberty of adding the link of your video in the download page)

I can easily imagine the countless hour needed to do a campaign like this... By the way, I wanted to apologize to you for using the term "negative point". It was far too strong. I didn't wanted to disrespect the time and effort you've put into this campaign. As I can't make something like this, I will never have bad words on something I will not be able to do myself. But you're right when you that for a free campaign having robotics voices is already good (I actually say that on my video 😅

I will be glad to fly your first campaign after this one 😉

Hello,

I've just started the first missions of your campaign. I must say :

1) BIG THANK for it. I know how much time it takes. I did 2 campaigns for the Yak-52 and I spent 1 week for each single mission.

2) Till yet (mission 5) : I love it! Documentation, variety of missions are great and very fun.

3) I learn new tricks on the M2000 because of the mission 🙂 so great!

Of course, voices are a bit robotic, but I prefere text-to-speech voices thant no voice. For me, no voice = trash. So thanks a lot.

Cheers.

Dan

Didn’t knew that the Yak had any Campaign, just looked for them … seems that I’m not the only one that was unaware of them, as less than 150 people have downloaded them 🤔 ..

I’m not at the moment flying the Yak-52, but just downloaded them to fly them once I return to the Yak .. thanks for sharing. 👍

I flew mission 1, after WP8 - show of presence, I entered WP 9 supposedly on the way to land at WP 12 the airbase. Inside WP 9, I get the female voice with warning to exist Israeli airspace twice. 3 warning came with the request to RTB. Followed by a male voice - missioned failed.

I checked the kneeboard and indeed I was flying the correct WP. Does anyone had this issue?

Honestly, it's strange. This mission (like the others) has been played hundreds (thousands ?) of times with no problem.

Maybe a bug in the INS drift ? (don't know if it is possible). If you have a warning, you are clearly in a "no fly zone".

I suggest you to try it again. If the problem occur again, at the first warning, turn back immediatly then be sure to go south toward WP10 over the Sea of Galilee. You can also pause the game, check where you are with the F10 map and compare with the map in the Introduction doc or the map in the M01 pdf.

Keep me informed.

(By the way, you can also see the playthrough of o-Tomcat-o (see his message above). He made a video for each mission).

Hi R.MES,

Thank you very much for both your campaigns. As others already said, we can see you have put a ton of work and love in there! It is diversified and super immersive with all the background you have built, great stuff.

Thanks o-Tomcat-o as well, your walkthroughs are very useful.

Unfortunately, I have an issue with mission 02. After succesfully dropping the two bombs I get the message to wait for the Gazelles to finish the work ("stay west of wp3...") but the Gazelle don't show up. They go to their wp2 then continue their flight plan to wp3 etc and ultimately land. I tried the mission three times and never saw them attack so mission fails. Any idea about what I could be doing wrong? Or it is broken due to an update or whatever?

Thanks

Highzur

Hi Highzur,

Thanks for the compliments.

For mission 2, if you tried 3 times with the same issue, there is a real problem ...

Which DCS version are you playing  ? (open beta or last stable ?)

Has anyone else noticed the same thing ?

Hi there,

I use the latest open beta.

Checked tacview:

  • Dragonfly 2 stays on its flight plan (or possibly approaches the target then go back).
  • Dragonfly 1 actually did CAS twice over four attempts, but fires only once, misses, then do passes without attacking (despite available ammo). I thought ALAT could do better 😛

I used my gun to kill their targets and move on with the mission.

Nice workaround ! A fighter pilot must be able to improvise 😉 !

Today I wanted to test but DCS crashes when I launch any mission on the Syria map (not only mine). I suppose this map is now too big for my "small" PC 😞 ...

I hope there will be no other trouble in the next missions as I can't investigate until I buy a new PC (and it is not yet planned).

By the way, it's upsetting than AI units act differently from one version to another and often inappropriately. Yet this mission is very simple, there is no LUA script or complicated things, only mission editor basic features (strike this unit, etc.). It's irritating ...

I flew this mission a couple of times yesterday and the same thing happened to me. I'll follow your example and shred those trucks with my cannon.

I guess it's just the trucks you have to kill,  right?

PS: I think there's something conflicting with the Gazelle configuration for the mission and the current DCS version. I remember F2ing to watch them and noticed there was something wrong with the mounted weapons. The rocket/missile? rack was floating besides the heli, with no wings to attach them. I'm sorry I don't have pics.

Hi both,

Now that you mention it nachinus, I observed the same thing and actually took a screenshot (well, didn't remember the shortcut for the screenshot so actually took an horrible photo) - see attached. But I checked in the recent changelogs of DCS and didn't see anything related to the Gazelle. And they didn't use their gun either.

R.MES, if you find something that could be wrong with the mission and would like to test a remediation, feel free to send me the file and I'll check. Regarding your PC crashing, could be worth cleaning/updating stuff before considering a change. Syria needs a lot of DDR but if you managed to start it in the recent past, there is no reason why it wouldn't work anymore now.

Best,

highzur

I tried again. I can load the mission in the editor but DCS crashes systematically when I launch it.

Anyway, for now, I don't know what to fix because as I said above, this mission is very simple and the Gazelles have only basic orders to follow. So maybe there is a bug in this DCS version ... and it will be fixed before the end of the current beta stage ?

At a push, I could add a validation of this step when Gazelles are coming back to their base whatever the status of the remaining opponents.

I let you know (if I manage to find some time).

And thanks Highzur for your proposition to test.

R.MES, I just finished this campaign and I really wanted to thank you for your work. I played your previous M2000 one too and both have delivered an immersive and enjoyable experience. Your style perfectly hits the spot for me!. Given that there isn't so much content for the M2000 your work is a blessing!!.
