Warning Heads-Up to x570 Mobo / Ryzen Owners...

Recommended Posts

Do not update to the latest chipset drivers from AMD if you're running Win10! I did this as there were some tweaks plus a fix for a performance issue with Win 11 users. Big mistake. Any 3D application turned into a slide show for me, DCS World included. I reinstalled GFX drivers, went back to a previous version - nada. Fiddled with the BIOS --> zilch improvement. Then remembered the change I made a few days ago and simply went back to my Mobo company's website for the second latest drivers. Bingo -- all back to normal 🙂

EDIT: IT WAS CORRUPTED VIDEO DRIVERS, PLEASE SEE POSTS BELOW.

Thats odd, I have a X570 MSI Gaming Edge using the 7C37v1G3 bios and I am using those chipset drivers on Windows 10. I did all the updates in prep to upgrade to Windows 11.

I'm ok on Windows 10 but on Windows 11 it was a stutter fest like you described! How strange!

I might have spoken too soon 😞

This morning reinstalled the nVidia drivers to the very latest version and bingo, problem back again.

What’s more, I cannot reinstall those chipset drivers from earlier this year that I thought had fixed the problem.

Tried reinstalling the Precision X1 software for the video card too, no improvement. I’m back to 16fps in the sim.

What could it be?

Edit: reinstalled September’s video drivers and problem still there.

Valve Index missing / dropped Frames | NVIDIA GeForce Forums

Not fixed since last year! There a a lot of people with stutter problems because of the driver!

On my 2080ti I use a very old driver (446.14) and have zero problems, but it is not an option for your 3090

Just reinstalled driver version 471.68 for the 3090 and all is well again.

But it doesn't make sense: I reinstalled driver 472.12 and that made no difference, yet when 472.12 was released it worked absolutely fine on my system, but no more.

Weird.

Try DDU Display Driver Uninstaller.

Sometimes it helps with messed up driver files

Hi C3P0,

Try downloading MSi Afterburner beta. Inside it is Rivatuner. Go through the settings. Enable the overlay to show core clocks, GPU clocks and dram usage. Whatever might be a problem when this happens. You don't have to run it all the time because you can set an overlay shortcut key.

I know you have a 3090, is that with a 5800x on x570. Also do you use VR or flat panel?

Your problem is a weird one. Sometimes when a driver works then fails then works again. Something could be wrong elsewhere. It's just not showing itself enough.

There are viruses which embed themselves in VRAM after updates, it's lotery and cannot be solved with antiviruses.

So for some a change of driver is a must, my tip if your system is stable do not update Windows or drivers.

I gotta admit I always keep my driver's up to date too. I tend to do my mobo bios once a year maybe twice.

C3PO for now I would chalk this up to a corrupted install, it does happen. With Windows 11 being released a lot of updates are flying around at the moment. Something could have gone wrong. Bad download or something, maybe.

If you do run into any further problems try running a memtest86 on your dram to rule it out. Should be ok though.

If you have any problem just post up on the forum. Plenty of informed members giving practical advice on here.

As I said, it's touch and go. I had my good and bad experiences while updating drivers, one tool I use to avoid this is Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) which cleans the drivers directory in safe mod before you perform a fresh instalation in Windows.

It doesn't solve the issue caused by anything loged in the VRAM istelf nor the result of a bad Windows update or corrupted drivers files.

Hi - ran the DDU Destroyer thing and reinstalled the latest nVidia driver - which had caused me all the FPS issues. Now it's running fine!! So thank you Gripen and others for excellent suggestions. Now ... do I risk the latest AMD Chipset x570 drivers .... 😁

I'm running the latest chipset driver's and bios for my motherboard. Nothing exploded.

Amd 5600x and MSi X570.

I had a blip like this that cleared itself while I went through the usual gremlins. Thing like DDU and Memtest 86 are good things to have on hand. Running a high end system it's good to have something like a USB stick with a software toolkit. Should anything start playing up.

Remember the good ole days with AMD/VIA Chipsets,

Update the Drivers and boom, all your HDDs are kicked from UDMA5/4 to PIO3, and wonder why you have incredibly slow read/write times.

VIA 686B SouthBridge, best when fully loaded with 4 devices @Ultra-DMA133(?)...   Maybe one of the worst Southchip Bridges ever released  LoL

Jokes aside.

I upgraded both as well, newest X570 chipset driver + latest Nvidia and all seems normal.

Latest chipsets installed. ALL FINE 🙂

My first AMD experience was with the venerable Thunderbird Athlon running at 1.4GHZ in 2001. Came from an ageing PII 300 Intel system. First self built system from components and I was bricking it. I even managed to drop a bead of sweat onto something on the board. Two hours later turned it on - and it worked! In those days that was my only PC.

Have you tried to do the Clean driver install through NVIDIA before DDU ?   I never used this DDU thingie and the Clean Install option usually got things done just fine...

I believe even DDU describes itself as being a bit of a nuclear option.  Ive used it for years without any apparent ill effects but I do use it sparingly even so. Its a very useful program for fubar'd installs. Most installs however usually work just fine using the nvidia software.

As a sidenote, if you need to clean out Windows you might want to give jv16 a look. It's been developed for almost two decades ( changed it's name from RegSupreme to RegSupremePro, jv16 Powertools, .. maybe a few more ) and it only got better. It has a 14 day trial which is basically enough to clean out windows.

During my 20 years+ fixing PC's this tool has helped on many many occasions to get a PC back working as it should.

As always, such tools are like an axe in the forrest, use it wisely and always use the backup feature ( jv16 does create a backup ) in case it goes wrong. In all those years it only failed once on my own system and deleted the Brother Scanner GUI...many many years ago, ever since it never failed again cleaning registry or installs.
