When I scaled the drawings for the grip, I made the assumption that my reference drawings had a thread size of 1.5" at the base of the grip. The resulting grip always felt a bit too large.

PXL_20220115_174736033.jpg

It turns out, from a ln obscure reference someone dug up with drawings of a training simulator, that thread was 1.25" meaning my part was oversized by 20%.

Having corrected for this, the new grip feels closer to what I was expecting (noting my only real reference is from an other jet type I've worked on).

If anyone here has sat in either a real Harrier GR7/9/9a, AV8B, or their respective simulators, can you tell if the lower photo looks right?

Won't be much use for the throttle grip itself because in this one they have the old GR3 grip installed. With a bit of luck you can get into the GR7/9 which is in Hendon I believe.

There's a guy in the Harrier fb group with cockpit access at the heritage centre at Wittering I can ask him.

That would be great. I'm based Pacific Northwest and won't bein the UK until May based on my current plans. If you can get a couple of measurements like the total length or diameter, that'll be enough to get me in the right ball park.

If you own the TM hornet grip, this picture of the real stick grip and the throttle grip side by side may help a little bit for the roughly dimensions. I have also searched for some dimensions or blueprints, but wasn't able to find any.

I do own the F18 grip and happy to take some pics of it with dimensions:)

The other thing you could try is try and get in touch with Razbam as they have scanned the real throttle grip as per Viper's post above. They may share the scanned file with you?

Looks like your grip is nearly perfect 👍

This is really looking great!  I can't wait to start building my own throttle (and the whole darn cockpit!).  I've spent crazy hours modeling up the cockpit in FreeCAD.  I'm getting closer.  I haven't yet worked out the construction geometry yet... that is all place holder & draft construction that is work in progress at the moment.  I hope to start building maybe next month, March at the latest.  I'll be sharing my files on the OpenHarrier FB group & GitHub.  Because sharing is caring!

I started working on the final wiring, which involved changing all the wires from the 2mm JST connectors to DSUB terminals to fit onto the Arduino shield I designed.  Unfortunately I noticed that I messed up the PCB design, so I have to re-do the shield.

That's really perfect work!!! It looks so good, I wanna have it! 😅 Every little detail is there, wow. How many hours did you spent in making it?

Here's a quick update with the modified Thrust Master F/A-18 stick grip.  I've attached the insert ring .stl file I used to set the trim switch in the SSS location.  For the SSS location, the hole was opened up to 20mm with a step drill, deburred, and a notch filed in for the keyway.

PXL_20220805_020829404.jpg

And this is what it looks like when set up with the throttle.

We want another thread of yours explaining the "preventing forward displacement of TM rudder pedals" sir!!! 🙂
