WISHLIST FOR THE NEXT HELICOPTER AFTER AH64D

  1. 1. Which of these helicopters would you like to be considered as the next module to be developed? I've put in the list modules with only attack capacity or poor transport capacity. I'm curious to know what you think. Or maybe you feel more the need of a beautiful transport helicopter?

I think that there are enough helos already, so I'd rather have a new airplane, preferably a Cold War one .. but if it really has to be a Helo, then the AH-1 would get my vote .. but I prefer a variant that saw service at Vietnam, rather than a more modern one.

Cobra, Cobra, Cobra and once again Cobra!!! 😄

For the variant I would always prefer to see the U.S AH-1F Tow Cobra (relatively similar to the AH-1S - which was the export version of the F). It's THE Cobra in my opinion and the optimal fit for the Huey we have. I don't like the Whiskey so much, also it is more modern, but the AH-1F was the only real attack helicopter of US during cold war times. It's also the perfect counterpart for the MI-24.

Ok, optimal would be a Cobra-pack with the F and the W version 😄 (a man could dream).

A MH-6 would also be a dream or if this is not possible, how about an MD-500 Tow Defender like Israel used it? Also a very nice little bird 😈😁.

Transport helis would also be very interesting in my opinion (same as as full fidelity C-130). Here I would like to have a CH-53E first and then a CH-47D 😅.

But a good simulation of the Cobra and especially the F-Model was always a dream of mine. Until now this iconic bird could only be flown in A..A CWR2 or 3. It's the chopper I'm waiting for since many years.

Personally, I think an a land-based xH-60 is the best choice right now, and something like the UH/MH-60L would fit with the Apache (which, unlike the Hind, doesn't have an appropriate transportation/utility helicopter available as a player module). My next choice on the list would be the AH-1S or AH-1F.

I would love to see some naval helicopters, but for me, the lack of naval environment in DCS (and the complete absence of ASW) that puts me off of them for the time being.

I would be interested in other helicopters, such as dedicated (C)SAR helicopters (my main interest being air-sea rescue), but again we're missing the functionality and assets for them to make them worthwhile (namely rescue hoist/winch functionality, and assets for life rafts and survivors).

On 11/8/2021 at 9:15 PM, Phoschek said:

That doesn’t make a lot of sense, the MD series helicopters are widely known throughout the world, and it’s doubtful that there is anything highly secret on the MH-6 outside of some passive missile sensors or jamming technology at most.

Unfortunately, to the people who operate these helicopters, they don't really care whether or not it makes sense to us or not.

The problem with that helicopter, is that it's British, and because it's British, at least everything sensor related is going to be classified to hell and back, hell I imagine that holds true for the Sea King and Lynx I mentioned above (I'm thinking Sea King HAS.5 (as far as UK variants go)) and Lynx HAS.2/HAS.3).

That and the complete lack of assets for it.

True.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

i really want a H60, especially the HH60G

when the apache release,we have good gunship in both red and blue force. But for the transport helipopter, the huey is too old and weak.

using the hh60g,we can do a lot of CSAR and even some CAS mission, she has a lot of advance sensors and have fbw systerm for flying.

It must be a joy to fly this beauty

You forgot to mention that it would finally allow us to sling load vehicles and artillery to the frontline

Edit:
C'mon #H-60 guys! We're loosing this poll to the Cobra club!

Just kidding, Cobra would also probably be a day-one purchase for me.. I do wonder though, maybe someone here knows:

Is it possible to properly operate the Cobra without a second human player?
I mean, are we talking Tomcat RIO kind of influence (huge part of aircraft operating done by RIO), or would the Cobra be more like the AH-64D, where both pilots are able to operate the aircraft independently with maybe just a few systems not being available?

After Longbow Apache - for sure something not as modern as Longbow, Longbow is going to be a flying computer - very challenging to learn all the systems and procedure and requiring regular training to stay proficient.

Next it could be I.e. Cold War AH-1 Cobra - a whole lot easier to learn and probably equally fun to use.

[snip]

Yeah, that's one thing DCS does rather badly outside of user scripts like CTLD - actually having a practical use for slingloading.

If we could have the embarking and disembarking advanced waypoint action facilitate slingloading, that would be fantastic (or have someway to configure/uncofigure a unit for slingloading).

BTW besides a Cobra, my next favorite ones would be a MI-28 Havoc or a KA-52 Alligator to have something more modern also for the red side. And I love the Havoc, she looks really angry 😄. It's my alltime russian favorite, a even like it a little bit more like the MI-24/35. I'm no fan of the Blackshark and most koax helis, although the KA-52 would at least be a helo which is in service. The Blackshark is in my opinion only an experimental helicopter and not one which is really used in service. That's also the reason why I'm personally not so super excited about BS3.

But sadly as we all know, a Havoc or an Alligator will rather not happen and that's not ED's fault, same as with more modern russian jets.

Ka-50 is typical Soviet philosophy, restricted visibility, but very heavily armored cockpit, rudimentary fire control system not particularly efficient to use and as high flight performance as possible. I like it.

On the other hand Ka-52 has worse flight performance and delicate, only lightly armored pilot cockpit. Ka-52 is just "westernized" Ka-50, like admitting to failure of their own philosophy.

I second that! Also, doesn't it use the same engines the Apache does? That should make development easier/faster for ED if they decide to model it 😉

  • 2 weeks later...

for an attack copter would like to see a  AH-1W Super Cobra

But at the same time albeit utility helicopter roles being niche it would be nice if there was something more modern ( and with better lift capacity)  than a UH1H to work with. like something from the  UH60 blackhawk family.

LOL - Of all the helicopters I would vote for - none are in the poll... 😂

OH-58 Kiowa
AH-60 Blackhawk or SH-60 Seahawk
V-22 Osprey
CH-47
AS365 Dauphin
Airwolf 😉  (Someone bet me to it I see) Obviously this is unrealistic so wouldn't happen, but still...

Kiowa I believe would be a great complementary helicopter working with the AH-64 and would make for some great co-op missions as well as multiplayer environments. I'd like to think it's the next helicopter we'll see - but from what I can tell we're 12 months past with little to no information so I don't know if we'll see that before the next helicopter or not, but here's hoping.

The Osprey and Chinook would add a whole new experience into the simulator, not just another attack or transport helicopter - but something with a big difference.

The Blackhawk is one I've dreamed of for a while.

In fact - I'd vote all of what I've mentioned above anything that's listed in the poll first.
