Oculus 2 what is needed for DCS?

Recommended Posts

My brother is offering to give me his Oc2 as he is going overseas on deployment.

I have heard that a separate cable is needed for direct pc connection to use it with DCS.

Be this true and what are the purchase options?

Cheers.

Probably best would be the official Oculus Link cable which you can purchase from Oculus. It is a fiber optic and works well.  Alternatively you can try any USB 3 Cable.

Thanks, I have heard it is stupidly over-priced.

It is higher than a regular USB 3 cable but no doubt it works.

VR Cover makes 1 too, works great. If you have a dedicated router for VR, Airlink or VR Desktop works too.

I have a generic USB 3.0 cable and so far it works fine; when I do a check, on average, it gives me 2.5 Gbps.

For anyone who is using Oc2...do you use the Oculus Tray Tool to enhance the super sampling?  And why or why not etc.  Cheers.

It's best to use one of the resolution settings in the Oculus PC app. They are effectively super sampling pre sets. The highest setting maps the Quest's native resolution 1:1 at the centre of the display.

1080ti, I max the res in oculus app which is 5408x2736 @ 72hz  With OTT  I lock asw at 36hz

depending on what I am doing and how performance is post patches in dcs I would drop dcs PD to 0.9 to get better frames if need be.

Some swear by it, but I do not. It eats up too many frame rate so bad, even my laptop RTX 3080 runs at worse rate than without. May be there is a setting which could be good, but I can't find it.

I use a batch file/script to turn off ASW after launching DCS to make it looks better.

Using OTT for 1.15 super sampling & locking refresh rate to 45Hz.

DCS PD is set to 1.0, Oculus app 90Hz, max resolution.

The above super sampling combined with 2xMSAA give nice visuals that my system can handle.

Of course its always performance vs quality.

OTT user here.
ODT comes with chinese (read not understandable) settings like:
- Pixels per display pixel override...🤔
- Force Mipmap Generation on all layers... 🤔
- Offset Mipmap Bias on all layers... 🤔
- Pose Injection... 🤔
- etc....

Hi, If you use ODT setting the ASW to "disable" you still need to use that script?

New OC 2 user (arrived yesterday!) and I have been looking for help to get the clarity/sharpness I am used to with a flatscreen.. is that even possible? I have tried (following a YT video for IL2) messing with ODT and setting "Pixel per Display Override" to 2.0 (leaving the Oculus Setup set to 1.0), did not seem to make much difference. I had it set at 120hz at this point. Today going to try another suggestion of setting Oculus to 1.4 @80hz.. and try DCS for the first time in VR. I will look at Matt's thread on VR setup 1st to see what else I don't know.. 😆

Using a USB 3.1 -> USB-C cable to connect, tried a USB-C -> USB-C and (on this MB) USB-C is USB 2.0, so using the faster cable..

Hello!

First, expectations, expectations, expectations

VR is for big pockets when you wish to match flatscreen image quality. We mortals have to settle and accept the spot where we land.

What are your hardware specifications?

Hardware is in my sig..

Well, it's amazing what 20 hours of reading/watching/resetting/playing and then doing it over and over will get you! The image got to the point where I was *almost* happy, but nowhere near where I was with a flatscreen. Today Amazon sent me a sale notice for a G2 for almost the same price as the Q2 so back in the box it went, then back to Amazon. G2 arrives Wednesday, will spend some time with it and if not satisfied it will go back and i'll move up to the next level of +/- €1000... The Varjo Aero "looks" great, but that's €2,400 with VAT... nah.

Welcome to VR gaming. You are always *almost* happy no matter which HMD you have. And there is always some announced HMD which will arrive soon and change our vr lives forever

And so it goes...  For me it's back to flatscreen and TrackIR, though I am keeping the G2 for a bit. It's substantially better than the Q2 (to me) but still not good enough. Biggest issue right now is for the G2 its one or the other as it uses one of my DisplayPorts so I can't just put it down and fly, have to disconnect it..

Any reputable USB3 cable will work. I use a GBP15 3m long one from Amazon - works perfectly.
