DCS Causes Audio Devices to be Removed

Recommended Posts

DCS causes my audio devices to disappear entirely and are no longer recognized by the PC, not showing up in playback devices in sound settings. Only a restart fixes it. It is not unique to the device, nor does this happen with any other application, as I have tried it with a Razer Blackshark V2 wireless headset and a Samsung Galaxy Buds. It occurs when loading into multiplayer servers, either at the spawn menu or shortly after spawning. This has been the case for some 6 months.

I use a B550 motherboard and have tried changing the the BIOS settings to PCI 3, and tried adding a " no_device_hotplug = true " line to

C:\Users\USERNAME\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Config\autoexec.cfg

to no avail. Only DCS does this. Attached is a log of such an occurrence.

In your log, we can see a large number of devices being disconnected. It deals with audio Bluetooth and keyboard/mouse ("HID"). Then your audio device gets "invalidated".

What is this Bluetooth equipment?
Are you using a USB hub? If so, see if it works fine without the hub.

In your log, we can see a large number of devices being disconnected. It deals with audio Bluetooth and keyboard/mouse ("HID"). Then your audio device gets "invalidated".

What is this Bluetooth equipment?
Are you using a USB hub? If so, see if it works fine without the hub.

My headset is wireless but it has a USB dongle for it to connect wirelessly. I don't know if this qualifies as Bluetooth. I do not use a USB hub. In my device manager the " Allow the computer to turn of this device to save power " has been unchecked.

Hi! An application cannot remove the device from the system.
Most probably it's some bug in the drivers of your Bluetooth dongle or a power issue, do you happen to use any other CPU/graphically heavy applications?

DCS puts a noticeable load to both the CPU and the graphics card, they start to get more current from the power supply and USB voltage may drop, causing your dongle to disconnect.

It's just a speculation though.

I'd try to run some load tests, like Prime95 and graphic benchmarks to see if they cause the same problem.

Its probably totally unrelated but I recently switched from a Z170 board to an X570 MSI Tomahawk running a 5600X. I use a Corsair headset with the in line USB dongle. The board is flashed to the latst Bios and drivers. I use a corasir RM850X PSU and have a realtively undemanding MSI Gaming X GTX1080.

In any of the X570 board's usb slots the sound would either fail or begin to crackle wildly after perhaps 30 seconds of use in and outside of the game. The fault also occurred using my lad's usb headset.  In addition, the other outboards, Warthog and TIR in particular were as reliable as a polititan's promise and continually disconnected despite any windows device configuration in the power mangement of them.

I installed an old 4 port USB 2.0 header slot plate extension that cost about £4 and all the issues stopped if the warthog and Corsair went though them. Later, for tidyness, as my outboard is portable, I installed a D-link 7 port powered hub running out of one of the slot plate ports and, again, things have been totally stable. The Hub takes my Virpil T50 mongoose, the Warthog,  Corsair headset, MFG Crosswinds, Track IR and provides power for a delan IR LED clip as well as the reciever of a wireless keyboard and  mouse.

I dunno if any of this will help as I think the X570 bios is still a little flaky in places which was the root of my problem. I did consider returning the board but since the solution I have is also my preferred option and I hate taking stuff Ive carefully built apart I didnt in the end. In all other respects the board performs as expected with the chip at this time.

I'll look into it. I've run intensive games before like Star Citizen and ARMA 3. ARMA 3 has given me the issue of the headset disconnecting temporarily, quite fleetingly before but does not occur often. With Star Citizen it has never happened. That being said I use a 850W Superflower Leadex3 80+ Gold PSU, I'm not sure if this is considered good.

Is this to say a powered USB hub solved your problems ?

This is to say, in my case, with an X570 board, connecting via the headers instead of the onboard usb sockets solved the issue whilst migrating all my periperals to a powered USB run out of the header did not cause any further issues and provided a stable connection.
