Combat Ready...What Now?

I'm fairly new to this module and DCS.  I've got a good feel for the basics of flight and want to build some combat experience without getting my ass kicked too badly.  What's the best way to start?  Server?  User Missions?  Campaigns?  etc.

Do some fights against AI starting with easy difficulty and work your way up. After you got confident with hardest difficulty, try against humans.

But dont be surprised when people behave completely different than AI. But you gotta start somewhere...

Quick missions are good.  Don't be afraid to try the mission editor to create your own missions against the AI.  This is good knowledge and allows you to increase the difficulty at your own pace.

i usually set up a simple mission.

have a flight of mustangs vs a flight of 109 or 190s. i mix up things by setting up heading and height to an advantage and disadvantage etc.

keep in mind the mustang is a high altitude escort fighter. itll perform best in 18k ft plus.

below 7k ft the germans especially the 109 will tear you apart.

good way to test things and try stuff out.

Instant action is good for start, but it becomes boring after a while, so you want to learn how to set up missions by yourself. But then setting up your custom missions also becomes boring because it is too more complicated and takes too much time.

Fixed that for you.   gXL4isB.png

What may be too complicated for you may not be for me or someone else.

Use other players in MP.  Don't worry about your "KDR".  Be disciplined.  The 51 has some advantage at high altitude.  Climb, look for targets, boom and zoom.  Once you can do that while staying disciplined and high speed...  You can maybe start turning a tiny bit...  but generally stay high speed and don't fight under about 17K feet.

Skip the AI altogether. Find a friend and fight each other, Pony v Pony until you fight to a draw and then do dissimilar (Pony v. LW).

Better yet find someone who knows actual BFM and is willing to teach you.

However, if you do find a teacher, you need to understand the need for repetitive practice. Every hour of instruction should be followed by several hours repetition of the concepts and maneuvers discussed.

If you follow this plan, you will improve rapidly.

There is a map in downloads for shooting down planes and another one spawns. Change it to unlimited ammo so you can practice shooting. In multiplayer expect to get your a** handed to you a bunch. It takes most people a lot of practice and some adjustments with graphic settings so you can see other planes (Reshade app helps too)

Cheers
