Kursant - Mission 1 - "Max RPM, Second attempt, Flaps were not extended" - What is he trying to tell me ?

Hi,

I have been trying Mission 1 countless times now, and in 99.99% with the same outcome:

After the third turn (coming out of the third turn ....) I set my flaps to 25 degrees and start the fourth turn towards the runway.

After a few seconds, I hear "Max RPM, Second attempt, Flaps were not extended"

I tried RPM of 90% all the way down to 75%. Always with the same result.

The mission briefing says 85%, but that didn't change anything.

Sometimes I could set the flaps to full, sometimes I even had the "pass the runway threshold at a speed of 210" before it complained

about the Max RPM. It also doesn't matter if it is the first or the second attempt.

I was allowed to touch down once, but for the life of me I cannot figure out what I did differently that time.

Can someone please explain what is required to avoid that message ?

Hi Morpheus,

the briefing says:

When the angle to the runway is 10-15°, perform the fourth turn with a roll of 30° at speed of 280 km/h
to align the aircraft with a continuation of the runway’s centerline. While performing the fourth turn, do
not allow your airspeed to fall below 250 km/h.

I am pretty sure I keep that speed.

That is why the message about RPM is so confusing.

Maybe it is about km/h and not RPM, maybe not.

Is it about me exceeding speed limits or me being too slow ?

I don't know.

I cannot see any pattern, because I don't know what to look for.

What I noticed in Youtube Videos, is, that those people are much farther away from the runway than I am.

It seems my 8 o'clock is not theirs 🙂

Hmmm, good point,

I never looked at it that way.

That could mean he actually complains about the flaps only.

So far I ignored that bit as I thought it was obviously wrong.

Although I have extended them, it  maybe happens too late somehow.

I will check.

Btw I opened the mission in the Mission Editor hoping to get more information,

but I couldn't see anything besides general settings like weather and time of the day.

I have not worked with the Mission Editor before. I just clicked through the tabs.

Made it.

This time I started my third turn much later (definitely didn't have the runway at my 8 o'clock) and focused on the flaps more than anything else.

It all went smoothly straight away. I got the "no remarks, exit the runway" message.

So I guess it has to do with some trigger zones for the flaps.

Off to the next mission.

Thank you, Morpheus and Pilot Ike for putting me on the right track 🙂
