VRAM requirements for DCS?

Have a G1 reverb, 8700k@4.9 and 2080ti with 11gb ram.

Recently noticed my GPU ram is almost fully used on some maps, and maxed out on others. game settings are  below. What are the effects on game performance when vram is maxed?.  Is vram an issue with the higher resolution headsets?

What you're seeing isn't necessarily VRAM being used, rather it is what has been allocated.

Basically put, you're fine with 11GB.

Just an observation that I noted the other day which relates to this...  I have a 3090 and my friend has a 3080ti and we always get about the same performance for our settings(almost identical).  We were in multiplayer in Nevada where I had put one of every aircraft and helo in DCS on the Las Vegas International airport.  My VRAM immediately maxed out for the first time ever in DCS.  I was getting 20-30 FPS with pretty high settings and 80% SS with plenty of stuttering, but playable barely.  My friend was getting single digit FPS and it was not playable at all.  That's the first time we ever had a difference between our card's performance in DCS and it seemed to involve the amount of VRAM we had.  I intend to do more testing to see what aircraft combos/counts bring up the VRAM, but it seems to be a thing in certain extreme cases for sure.

Unfortunately we simply don’t know how much VRAM is actually being used, only that it’s being reserved.

One point of you play is VR is to disable the “home” that you are presented with on first firing up your headset.  It can be done in Steam/Oculus settings.  Those “homes” use a good 2GB of space and are reducing the amount available for DCS to play with

System: 9700, 64GB DDR4, 2070S, NVME2, Rift S, Jetseat, Thrustmaster F18 grip, VPC T50 stick base and throttle, CH Throttle, MFG crosswinds, custom button box, Logitech G502 and Marble mouse.

Server: i5 2500@3.9Ghz, 1080, 24GB DDR3, SSD.
