PC preformance issues

Recommended Posts

Hello all.

So as title says I got some stuttering and preformance issues when on multiplayer. System itself is already optimised to the max as it is, so now I  will try to optimise game itself.

Here are my system specs:

AMD Ryzen 5 3600

16 gb RAM (DDR 4 i think)

2 separate 500 gb SSD

GTX 1070 TI

I also use:

Thrustmaster T FLight Hotas X and Logitech throttle quadrant (for some spare buttons).

Usualy I get smooth game even on a server with sudden game stutter (game freezes for couple of seconds and even more). That as it goes usualy happens when it is totaly inapropriate. my current settings are low, almost minimal (video settings).

I am open to suggestions as I ran out of ideas.

SO far I did couple of reinstalls, minimised amount of services as I could, cleaned, repaired and maintained system , I also omited game folder from scanning in windows defender (suggestion I saw somwhere).

I am aware that 16 gb is minimum RAM true and that is in plan to expand to 32 gb but It will have to wait and I am trying to make mylife easier untill then.

Thank you for any advice, or question 🙂

What monitor resolution are you using ? Does the sim run well in singleplayer ? What size pagefile are you running ? Does the problem manifest on all servers ?

I run at 1920 x 1080, pagefile is 32 gb I think and in single player it is all fine and dandy. Some servers are ok, but some are very bad.

I switched pagefile from auto to manuat at 32 gb on both ssd's.

my current idea is to try reinstall game to D drive. Also when i look up dcs.exe in task manager I see it usses all threads. I think I saw somwhere that it is beter to set it to run only on 6 6 main cores and not on 12 threads so I presume those would be 0,2,4,6,8 and 10?

Maybe your Ping to those servers is suboptimal or those servers themselves are just weak and cause it on their end.

The 16GB elephant still stands in the room.

make sure your anti virus isn't scanning DCS...make it an exception

1070Ti is a good 1080p card, you should be able to get medium to high settings with that card and hold around 50FPS in multiplayer. That being said I had 32GB of RAM when I was running my 1070Ti. The RAM upgrade should help with multiplayer a lot.

GTX 1070 T is way too slow to meet the real minimum specs, a 1080/1080Ti would be a lot better.

Well, you could try turning down your "graphics" settings to take some of the load off your CPU.  In quotes because pretty much every setting, other than anti-aliasing, affects your CPU at least as much as your GPU.  I'd look at vis range first.

Don't expect much though.  To give you an idea how important RAM is... Back in the day, using the same CPU, I was driving a Rift S at 40Hz.  Assuming you're playing at 60 hz on your monitor, you have ~17ms to render the scene once, I had 25ms to render the scene twice and I was able to make it work.

You have plenty of CPU.  And I doubt upgrading your GPU will help much in MP.  For that generation of hardware, if it worked in SP it worked in MP.  You need RAM my brother.

Don't be sad.  DCS is still cheaper than golf, and not nearly as much a waste of time.

Thanks for tips. Unfortunately current graphics card will stay. It has too. Memory will get upgraded and I plan to reinstall game to D:/ disc so it can be used only for dcs. Also I did make an exception for dcs, but I am not sure did I make it for whole folder or not. Anyway, back to tweaking.

Aries,

I just increased my DRAM.

Below is a screen shot using MSI Afterburner while on a MP server after some play time.    The first number by RAM is the allocated amount and the second number is the usage amount.  I have my FPS capped at 50.

I think...  I noticed almost no stuttering.

With 16 GB DRAM, I typically noticed allot of stuttering specifically right after entering the server.  But my FPS could also go in the crapper at those times and be very unsteady.  After a while on a MP server the stuttering smoothed out quite a bit, but never really went away entirely.
