Naval assets

What I feel would be a great addition to DCS are landing ships. Contrasting to the various forms of ground attack, anti shipping missions don't exactly have the same stakes in DCS right now (save for NAVAIR) and randomly blowing up warships in the middle of the sea does not really make for a convincing mission.

Usually, land based aircraft engage ships to halt amphibious invasions and, save for the USS Tarawa and the Type 071, we don't have the proper ships to simulate an invasion fleet. That's why I think adding some Russian/Soviet ships into the mix would make a great addition

Polnochny class medium landing ship. Made in fairly substantial numbers (108, to be more accurate) and widely exported, which would make them suitable for a whole host of different scenarios. The one pictured below served in the Lybian navy.

Project 1171 large landing ships:

Project 1174 large landing ships:

Amphibious_Ivan_Rogov_class.jpg

The deck of one of the ships in the class:

Ivan_Rogov_class_landing_ship_with_sovieThat would be quite the eye candy in game

Project 775 large landing ship:

%D0%91%D0%94%D0%9A_%D0%93%D0%B5%D0%BE%D1

Most of them carry a healthy amount of firepower, in the form of rocket artillery and deck guns. The large ones can even carry air defense weapons such as CIWS guns and the Osa missile system.

Another type of ship that would make missions and campaigns interesting would be ELINT ships. One that I would find appropriate for DCS would be the Balzam class  general intelligence collector ship:

Balzam-class_general_intelligence_collec

And lastly, having resupply ships would give more life to NAVAIR ops. Pictured here, the Henry J. Kaiser-class replenishment oiler and the Supply class:

Absolutely +1

Personally, at the top of my list would be suitable 90s/Cold War BLUFOR escorts for the Forrestal class carriers (Knox FF, Belknap CG, Charles F. Adams DDG/Spruance DD).

For amphibious warfare ships, right now there's the LST Mk. II, but there is also a BDK Pr. 775 [Ropucha I] LST/LSD which has been in the files for a few years (I want to say 2017?).

They both have animated doors and ramps, and the LST Mk. II also has its cargo elevator animated (same is not said for the Ropucha's cargo loading hatch).

The only thing is that there's missing functionality to support amphibious operations (for instance, being able to embark and deploy ground units). Though the same can be said for just about every single aspect of DCS' naval environment as a whole.

As for the rest? +1, though DCS' logistics/warehouse system could do with work.

Anything will be welcomed When it comes to adding naval assets, eagle needs to think about battle groups and task forces.

Right now we basically have a modern US carrier battle group,

the Kuznetsov carrier battle group is missing destroyers

we are lacking dock ships for the US Navy amphibious battlegroup

We basically have nothing in the way of Russian amphibious warfare ships as you pointed out.

We may have a British carrier battle group on the way

We need French assets

China is missing a carrier and the type 055 destroyer.

Also we need historical assets, the Forestal we have is a 1980s version so spurance and kidd class destroyers and a period correct cruiser would work. Also I'd like to see the Iowas added officially. Ideally we need WW II, Korea, Vietnam and the gulfwar.

Then we also need World War II ships for both sides

Why. I can't understand why they do that for the life of me. I get that adding new functionality to the game is an incredibly complicated task, but this is nothing more than adding a new asset using an already existing codebase. And I hear that there's plenty more assets in this situation.

Anyway, how does one view these files...?

I'd be happy even with just the ships, if the functionality gets added at a later date. Employing the Rb04 does not get old quickly 😛

Well, that's about it. We just need the Liaoning and we can gear up for some pretty interesting ops in the Marianas.

Agreed, and after all, we have submarines with numerous animations for functionality that isn't present, same with many towed ground units.

If you go into your main DCS World directory, navigate to your 'bin' folder and find 'ModelViewer2.exe'

If you open that, you can then open a model, load liveries and play animations.

Most models can be found in the main DCS directory -> Bazar -> World -> Shapes.

Module specific models (and other models not found in Bazar\World\Shapes) can be found in CoreMods  -> aircraft/tech/WWII Units -> yyyy -> Shapes.

The Pr. 775 can be found in Bazar -> World -> Shapes, and its file is BDK_775_LOD_0.EDM (there's several files for different LODs and collisions, but LOD_0 gives you the highest detail).

That and some JSDF assets as well, which I think is something desperately needed in DCS since any conflict with China would likely see the JSDF being involved in some capacity.

I'd love to have the Japanese carriers I mean helicopter destroyers

Thanks a bunch!

The 775, though, seems to need a paintjob

It did used to have a proper one, but looks like modelviewer can't find the livery files.

Heh yeah and it may not even need to be added. Pr. 775 was in Flanker 2.0 and I wouldn't be surprised if the entry(CLSID) remains in the code and just needs to be reactivated with an associated lua script......at least that was possible in DCS previously.

Hopefully we will get a Round Table LSL from Raz at some point

Yep, looks like it (image link is broken though)

I think there's definitely a Fearless LPD too.
