I really appreciate the split between earlier and later versions, it allows for more variety in mission planning

Yes, this is an awesome feature. Imagine i.e. Iranian F-14A GR95 dogfighting having only rear aspect Sidewinders J/P being forced to outfly the enemy to fire the missile from the rear aspect.

Having F-4 variants from different timeframe will be awesome as well. I only wish to have some even earlier hard wing typical 1960s Vietnam era F-4E. But i still think the earlier variant from 1974 could be able to simulate proper late Vietnam era slatted F-4E.

My most wanted Phantom ist the F-4G Wild Weasel variant.

It can play a major role in SEAD operations all over the servers, making it very interresting for a variety of mission types - and therefore a lot of players!

I would say SEAD is not variety of missions but just one, it was specialised aircraft.

Classic F-4B,C,D,E are multirole, interception, air superiority, ground attack, strike, CAS etc.

well. You can use the E version for SEAD. The E version could carry Shrike missiles. Only a hit probability of like 25 % but still

Sounds crappy by today's standards... but for the era of the Shrike, 25% hits was pretty good I think!!  I mean, the first couple of Sidewinder Aim-9 versions had Probability of Kill (expressed as Pk rating) of far below that: In total 452 Sidewinders were fired during the Vietnam War, resulting in a kill probability of 18%.

Keep in mind, that the Sidewinder entered service... 66 YEARS AGO!!

That means it gets the senior citizen discount, and can qualify for pension! Then again, it IS still working hard these days... though that young hotshot whippersnapper Amraam is getting more attention these days!

It wasn't until the 9-Lima (introduced in 1977, the first "all aspect" heater) that Pk increased substantially, rocketing up  to 80% Pk in the Falklands War of 1982. I do suspect though that at least a little bit of that increase in Pk might be attributable to high training standards among RAF and RN pilots, much newer radars and radios than used in Vietnam, and I'm very certain the Americans helped pass along the Vietnam "lessons learned" training/info to their Island-bound friends.

But for a 1960's missile to have a 25% seems to be pretty good even for targets that just sit there!

For sure a lot of the problem was training. The AIM-9J hit at the edge of its envelope when it first entered service i believe 4/4 shots. However since the aircrew was given wrong information about its range at low altitude, the rest were fired out of range and the AIM-9J never hit again. It was possibly a very good missile but we'll never know beyond those shots.

In DCS we've learned from all this (and of course it's a game) so we will be able to use them to better effect.

The difference wasn't tiny at all though. Before the late 60s non-Crusader crews had next to no air to air training other than running intercepts. Almost no BFM and ACM, especially in realistic scenarios.

Just occurred to me now that it'll be interesting using the M-61 Vulcan with an oldschool gunsight, (instead of a fancy HUD with radar data...) just a reticle image, raw skill and a blazin fast rate of fire!

You will have a radar guided moving gunsight with lead factored in and range info on the reticle, even with this old HUD on the -E.

If you have the F-5 Tiger II, it’s gun sight is very similar to the one used by the -E. Unfortunately the one on the F-5e is a bit bugged in regards to lead calculation.

Yep, also had that ideia in the bold, (from other sims).

Although for AIM-9 employment the gunsight didn't provide much info ... but it was the technoloy available at the time.

I would love to have such "resting" planes as static objects, to bring some live in the airports in my missions...

The OP said release in 2022...time is getting short...just saying...

This is actually really good news. I mean, if they weren’t going to make 2022 they would have announced that already, right?

Right?
