Fighter I-16 type 5 of the Spanish Republican Air Force (Fuerza Aereas Republicanas), "became on its nose as a result of an unsuccessful landing at the El Cunnoli airfield, 1938. The aircraft is equipped with trimmers on the ailerons, such a modification was not found on the Soviet I-16 type 5.

More good I-16 stuff there. I Bookmarked.

From you quotation, that's a very well known photograph (interesting the pointed trim tabs indeed, many local modifications were performed during the war as needed), the place named is (link) "el Carmolí", guess got twisted in the Cyrillic-Latin transcription. It was a flying school so incidents and accidents happened. It's very well known either for a pic in which an alleged Type 6 is shown (it's the only pic existing AFAIK), probably just a local Type 5 repair with a Type 10 windscreen since no Type 6 ever existed according to Russian sources, but go undo settled urban legends now.
