Can I use an xbox controller as extra key bindings?

Help I'm running out of buttons on my T.flight hotas. I've used all modifiers giving me 38 bindings total but I still need a few more so I was wondering if its possible to use a gamepad (360) controller to have on the side when I need to mess with miscellaneous things.

Of course it is, it's a fantastic idea for a lot of people.  I believe you need to use a wired USB XBox 360 controller, I don't believe the wireless ones are compatible with PC's.  If you have an XBox One wireless controller, newer ones can be connected via Bluetooth to PC's, but the older ones (with a shiny black plastic face around the Xbox button) cannot.

I have used the wireless XBox controller that came with my old Oculus Rift in DCS.  I mostly use it for bringing up and navigating the kneeboard.  It has its own transceiver that plugs into a USB port.
