DCS and a 3-monitor setup

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm thinking of modifying my monitor setup. At the moment I'm using the Samsung LC49RG90SSUXEN 49" Curved LED Gaming Monitor. It provides 5120 x 1440 resolution at 120Hz on a 49" curved matrix. Unfortunately, DCS requires me to zoom out quite a bit to retain the vertical angle like the one on 16:9 or even 21:9 aspect ratio monitors. This in turn makes my HUD symbology thick and "fluffy" and so far, I've only found a way to resolve it in the Hornet.

Anyway...

I'm thinking of switching to a 3-monitor curved setup. It really all comes down to how much I want to stress my system. Here are my main parameters:
- i7-7700K CPU @4.2GHz
- 32 GB RAM @3200MHz
- Aorus Xtreme GeForce RTX 2080Ti 11GB
- M.2 512GB SSD for DCS

My current monitor generates a resolution of 5120 x 1440 which makes my PC work on a total of 7,372,800 pixels. If I was to retain 1440p in the vertical, I really only have one option:

3x 2560 x 1440 which would put my total pixel count at 11,059,200. I am going to switch to RTX 30.. series card eventually but not just yet. Do you think my specs are good enough for such rez?

Could anybody that is using a 3-monitor setup for DCS share their specs (for both the PC and the monitors) and perhaps also give me a few tips? It's so easy to waste money these days and I'd like to make an informed purchase.

Thank you in advance!

Hi Belphe,

I guess you can get an idea of performance if you have a look at the following thread. I also have a triple screen setup with 3x 27" (2560x1440). So in case of further questions, don´t hesitate to contact me.

Thread about triple screen and performance

Take care,

Thanks! Your post is very informative. Toying with the multi-monitor idea I realised not all of them need to be identical.

Do you think having a 21:9 (3440x1440) central monitor and two 16:9 (2560x1440) on the sides would work as well?

I think this will be possible, but will again result into performance loss compared to my system. You need to see if you want to gor for a 3 Camera or 1 Camera setup. The 1 Camera setup result into distortion (fisheye) at both outer displays. You can work on this by adjusting the head position in the Cockpit plus changing the FOV.

The 3 Camera setup best work with 45 degree angled displays. Here I have limited knowledge.

In case of further questions, simply ask them.

Take care,

Xoxen
