Low FPS - Reverb G 2.0

Recommended Posts

Hello

My Specs are:

  • Processor (CPU): Intel Eight Core i7-9700K/3.60 GHz…
  • RAM:  4x, 8GB, DDR4-3200, DIMM 288
  • GPU: ASUS GeForce ROG STRIX RTX 3090 O24G-GAMING 24GB
  • HDD / SSD: SSD Samsung 860 QVO, 4TB, 2.5" / SSD Samsung 970 EVO Plus, 250GB, M.2 2280
  • OS: Windows 11

So after installing DCS new, playing again after a break for a year, I noticed, that I get lower FPS than before.

In freeflight I get around 33 FPS, on Supercarrier deck with busy deck even only 13 FPS.

I use the same ingame settings as in this Thread:

What are Settings I can "downgrade" for more FPS?

Thanks!

please take a screenshot of your DCS settings page and your VR tab page and attach them here.

please also let us know what % resolution you are using for DCS in steamVR

thanks

try dropping clouds to HIGH and your water to medium, also turn off terrain shadows, which is a bit of a CPU hog... in which map  are you getting those numbers, it makes a huge difference, are they Marianas numbers ?

Thanks for helping!

With Clouds on high, water on medium, and turned off terrain shadows i get around 35-45 FPS in free flight, on persian gulf map. Which is ok for me.

But on Supercarrier cold start mission, with very busy deck I get only 16-18 FPS, also on Persian Gulf map. Is this normal?

Thanks

Slower on the super carrier is normal, but not that low, try shadows off, see if that helps, also are you running your cpu at stock? If so that can be a problem, same with not enabling xmp on the ram.

In your bios . "Memory" or "ram" section , "enable XMP" . This allows your memory to run at 3200 or 3600 as opposed to 2133 or 2400 .

Yes, I run CPU at stock. I don't want to overclock it. But thanks for the tip :).

How do I enable xmp on the RAM?

Thank you!

I understand your hesitation, but, if you are not oc’ing your cpu to at least 4.2,  you are leaving money on the table, and you will be cpu bottle necked, providing you have a decent z series mb and cooling solution it you will be fine.

Also , it appears that you have Steam global resolution set to "auto" ? I personally had no luck with that setting . Try 100% instead ?

If you are using the G2 turn down the Resolution for the monitor in the game settings to a much lower setting. You are forcing the video card to handle way more pixels than you are looking at within the headset. This is causing the card to do double duty. The resolution for the headset is handled in the VR settings.

Monitor resolution has zero functional impact on vr perf. It makes no difference.

Looks like it's really a bottle neck from the CPU. I will consider over clocking it, but not for now. Does it have a option to overclock a CPU only for one Programm (like DCS)?

I have tried XMP Mode for RAM, and setting global resolution to 100%. I also tried the from silverdevil posted Settings for Nvidia System Settings. Nothing works, FPS at 16-18 :(.

I will try more tommorrow!

Thanks for helping to all you guys! Have a nice Sunday!

Lower your resolution in "General" tab. Change "automatic" to "user" and set 100%. You using 150%.

There might be, there are utilities that allow you to configure things per-game. That said, I don't know of any in particular.

Keep in mind that DCS only uses a single core for everything except sound, which runs on a different thread. I'm on 1080Ti, and it's CPU-limited all the same. Sadly, my CPU won't go above 3.9GHz (it's a problem with the specific chip), so I can't help that at the moment. ED is working on proper multicore support, performance should go up quite a bit after that.

FWIW , i am also running my 9700k at stock clocks (at least at present) with similar DCS settings , and with far better performance on an inferior (as compared to a 3090) gpu .

Have you run FpsVR to check for bottlenecks ? Also running CpuZ during a test will verify pcie lane usage . Another thing to check might be power to the gpu if fpsvr shows the problem there .

I tested FPS on a carrier with me alone on it (Supercarrier). I get 30+ FPS. So thats fine! I think it's a problem of the mission, so many other aircraft are to much for my CPU.

@SvsmokeyI will try that tomorrow, thank you! What are the FPS counts, that you get?

@Alex_buka I have set that to 100% as you see in this screenshot:

Thanks!

I run at 60 , and stay there except for airports and the supercarrier . Then i am at 30 with motion smoothing . I do not , however , run complex missions .

I would look for background processes, in windows.  Something is eating your cpu.

also make sure you clear out anything in exports.lua that doesn’t need to be there, winwing software is pretty bad, for this… but other can be bad, Viacom is ok though.

I looked in the Task Manager while free flight over Persian Gulf.

This is the result:

I really can't recognize any high CPU usage beside of DCS itself.

CPU TM.jpg

also regarding that export.lua problem. I have a winwing HOTAS, can I delete that winwing folder in the scripts menu, despite I have a Winwing HOTAS?

It looks like this:exports.lua.jpg

Thanks for helping!

so i'm no expert...  but, it seem there are loads of active processes that could be eating you cpu there, iQue, the ASUS, XBOX Game Bar, Nvidia share i could go on... but my immediate guess will be winwing see this thread:

i use the winwing control panels, without difficulty, i don't get a handle light in sync with my hornet... and the switches don't auto sync... but ... other than that
