Xs1nX Posted December 11, 2008 Share Posted December 11, 2008 Hi everyone, Heard about Black Shark in passing on another forum, visited the website and got rather interested so much so I went looking for my Stick that has been collecting dust in a cupboard for a few years (Logitech Extreme 3d Pro and the last time i did any real sim play was with Falcon 4 Gold around its release) i did indeed find it.. So I am somewhat tempted to give BS a go however i got some questions - Is my stick good enough to get by in Game Mode or prehaps a custom balanced setting bettween Game and Sim ? Since there are no screenshots to show this, does Black Shark offer full control over calibration and dead zone ajustments ? I ask this prehaps silly question as my stick has a tiny amount of "looseness" that as i recall is easly corrected for if a game has said options but could prehaps pose a problem if the options are not there although since I have not used it in so long I am not sure. If only for game mode: yes - but this stick is like a gamepad... with stick. Probably you could even play in game mode using keyboard If you plan to do some real flying: generally NO - it's not suitable even for flying Su-25 in LO FC get the GUI manual. You'll find all about options regarding joy axis A good joystick with separate rudder pedals are recommended for BS but if you want to switch fast the best chocie regarding highest quality/price ratio is Saitek Cyborg Evo. "Looseness" doesn't sound like it makes for accuracy, but in answer to your question, yes, there are quite comprehensive calibration & deadzone adjustment screens. ED have said there's a demo coming (don't ask me how far off). You could try that with your current stick. I have an X52 and an old MSFFB2, which is what I use... Cheers. In Arcade or Sim-Mode. There are enough settings you can do to neutralize any problems with your current stick. The looseness I describe I think would be classified as prehaps that normal "give" that most sticks ive used and thumbsticks on gamepads give.. very very slight.. well within the deadzone of most games as long as they are sensible about it or alow it to be set manualy hence the question. I used to use one for formation flying in FC1.12, and it was adequate. Don't expect to have much luck with the weapons and targeting systems tho, a hotas really comes in handy for all the stick and throttle functions, and frankly 13-14 buttons and a hat switch probably won't cut it in combat, atleast not if you want to take full advantage of the systems. I had it when I started flying BS and there's this "little" problem with it: the trimmer does NOT work as it should. Even if you turn force feedback off, most of the time, the trimmer had absolutely no effect whatsoever. Now, I know some have gotten it to work by physically modifying the stick and/or playing around with the forces, but I'd say you're better off with something else. 98abaile Posted June 13, 2011 Share Posted June 13, 2011 Ignore the elitists in this thread, the 3D pro is easily enough to get a feel for the game, just set buttons 11 and 12 as modifier buttons (although you may need more). You will find very quickly that the stick has nowhere near enough functionality (for the serious simmer) with its limited number of buttons and only one hat; and without track IR, changing your view will be a pain in the butt. But provided you don't mind using the keyboard for most things, the Logitech Extreme 3D PRO will be enough to make good inroads into the game. I use the HOTAS Warthog now, but I still have my old 3D Pro, I got many years use out of it in the X games (X3:R, X3:TC, etc.... not X-plane) and it served me very well. I'm just saying it can be done and that there is no need to splash cash on kit when you (not you specifically, obviously) haven't even tried the game. Not all of us can afford to make gambles on computer games (even assuming I were a dedicated simmer), I only work a low paid job for Tesco.
