Why does it matter? Is a private company responsible somehow for the actions of a government?

I understand, but as a consumer it’s important for me to know where my money goes.

Agreed, they absolutely are not responsible for a governments actions, just like the rest of us. It’s  just who they pay there taxes to, and then what those taxes get spent on. No need to say more than that, and we are each able to make our own decisions.
