[FIXED] Dim symbology unreadable when map turned on

The symbology strokes are extremely dim when the map is activated.
SYM is maxed out to start, so i cant go any higher.
BRT affects everything, strokes and map, so it does not help.

and CONT needs to be so low that the map becomes unreadable, for the strokes to stand out.

I have the same problem. No amount of adjusting brightness or contrast makes the symbology clear above the map.

All MFDs are quite a bit darker than previous builds, but I'm unsure exactly when this happened (I don't get to fly DCS nearly as much as I'd like).

The JF-17 is not better than the F-16; it's different. It's how you fly that counts.

I ended up using J20Stronk's MFD recolour, and it's so much better.

Still disappointed that it's not usable without mods.

i think it's due to our symbol render layer and clip type issue

Maybe, or maybe not. The F-18's HSD map is also a bit too bright at times.

I actually managed to "fix" this issue by adding a black box over the map render. It darkens the map and doesn't affect the Symbology or Icons, so the map usable both in day and night.

Could you share your modification just for that black box filter? 🙂

Here's the lua files.

Necessary changes are in:

(materials.lua) lines: 68, 180, 217

(MFCDs_defs.lua) line: 75

(UP_L1_HSD.lua) lines: 89 - 107

Ignore the other changes.

JFMAPFIX.zip

PS: adjust the opacity of MFCD_IND_BLACK in materials.lua (line 68) to get the map brightness just right. I found 210 to be good enough for both day and night.
