Have you ever tried to set the G2 to 60Hz when playing with Steamvr?
No wonder you have a higher performance now.
I'm not sure if setting your G2 to 60Hz is the solution to your problem.

Yep.  Even running a 3090,5900x, 32gb ram, nvme, and VR shaders, I have to run my G2 on 60 hz to get smooth frames.  Have to do it for both Steam VR and OpenXR.   I do not use reprojection as I don’t like the ghosting on edges.  But I had 60fps on the carrier deck last night with about a dozen planes.   Never got close to that with Steam.

Not sure how folks are getting smooth frames on 90hz.   It just doesn’t work for me.  And that’s across multiple pc’s.   IRacing runs butter smooth for me at 90hz on high settings.  So, not sure why.   But running the g2 at 60 hz in DCS makes for almost flawlessly smooth frames.

Ok. Seems like i'm one of the unlucky few, who can see the flickering.

The frames are smooth.

The flickering effect originates from the Headset LCD strobing the display to compensate motion blur.
The strobing intervals are longer at 60 Hz than at 90 Hz and thus noticable for some people as flickering.
It looks like an old 60 Hz CRT Screen for me.

I have honestly yet to try 60hz in the g2. I always ran at 90hz and never noticed much microstutters. But again I mainly play campaigns in single player.

When you guys set the Reverb to 60 Hz how do you bear the flickering?
Do you get used to it at some point?

+1, been using 60Hz for ages now.

When I first switched to 60Hz I noticed the flicker for about 20 minutes, it was never particularly distracting though.  Since then it's pretty much unnoticeable switching from one to the other unless I've been in 90Hz for a while before switching back to 60Hz; even then I only see the flicker for a minute or two.

If you can handle the flicker, 60Hz is arguably the way to go to get perfect image stability and smoothness in DCS because 16ms is far easier to surpass and hold than 11ms; particularly as it gives the CPU additional breathing space as well.

It makes my eyes bleed at 60hz but I guess I must be sensitive to it, reminds me of an old CRT.

I think some are more so than others. Back when I had my Reverb G2 I gave 60 Hz a shot and just could not stomach it. Some others have no issues at all. That is how VR is with all the available settings, everyone is different.

I forced myself to try 60hz for a couple of weeks hoping I would get used to the flicker, never could.

Sold some body parts and bought a RTX 3090 instead. Finally no more stutters.😍

I know it was worse the first few times I tried it with Steam VR. Was especially horrible back when I was on a Vive Cosmos Elite.

Near migraine inducing.

60hz flicker for me makes it totally unusable. I've tried several times to see if I can get used to it but it just causes headaches.

It makes me wonder of there has been some changes in the production of the g2 and perhaps its earlier models where this is more noticeable. I got mine literally the day they launched. I wish I could get it to work. Possibly there could be other settings that exasperated it. It's especially noticeable for me in bighter areas such as sky and clouds.

For those who notice the flickering in the sky, try changing the highlights and shadows parameters in the open xr toolkit. I found the clouds somewhat too bright and that seemed to intensify the flickering. Dulling it down seemed to help me to tolerate it. I set my highlights to 70 and shadows to 20.

Yeah. I just got mine recently, what, six weeks ago?  Looks like a bad fluorescent light to me.   Beyond that I can't quite hold 60 over Syria without undersampling.  Guess I'm just gonna be one of those 45fps fellers.  All I can figure is, @edmuss has his 3070 on testosterone shots or something.

@nikoel Did the install today, I can certify it's not idiot proof but it does work.  Had to re-run opencomposite.exe a couple of times before it "took" but it did take eventually.

How do You measure frame time in Open XR?

There's an overlay you can call up in the OpenXR Toolkit, see first post for links and install instructions

The only change is a reformat of some files (some spaces removed and some include files reorganised). This wouldn't have any effect at runtime. The problem you have would be present in previous builds too.
