Does Apache run well on ancient systems?

Morning all,

I have an ancient system, but it runs DCS pretty well considering.

i5-3570K, 16GB RAM and GTX1060 6GB

I can get between 30 and 60fps depending on module, terrain and altitude Obviously, I'm only playing in pancake mode.

However, I don't want to drop $64 on a game that I won't be able to play, so does anyone have a rough estimate for where Apache falls in terms of framerate?

I've heard MI-24 is very resource hungry-is that a fair comment and if so, is that what Apache is like or is it as smooth as Viper or F-18?

Also, if anyone can give me some tips on settings to improve fps in general, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

i5-12400F, 32GB Corsair Vengeance LPX, MSI RTX4060 8GB, 1TB Corsair Pro NVME.

Finally, I can run DCS!!!

Use the two weeks free trial to check out the module on your system.

Nemesis, you can see my system in my signature.

Last night Aerobatics Online Server was too crowd for me actually. You can guess. I played nice. More than a couple times I experienced server-quake, long freezes.

Later, I went another server with Syria map, with no much pilots - and I did fly for hours, between 20~30~40ish FPS.

If you ask my opinion, and if we do compare, Apache has no FPS impact on my system. Very similar with other modules (A-10C II, Ka-50, F-16, F-18...)

I play on a laptop - MSI GP66 with RTX3070 130W and i11800h with 32GB RAM, mostly on high with 2x MSAA and 1440p screen. I lock my FPS in Nvidia panel to ~65 FPS to keep my temperatures down and get ~100W draw from the GPU. However running Apache for the first time yesterday made my GPU go crazy to 130W and above, so I would say it is power hungry. Interestingly lowering objects textures to medium, made everything quite back to normal.

There is a high power draw jump when I switch to CPG, maybe MFDs and FLIR is what is causing this. Need to experiment bit more when I have time.

Framerates are at the low end. I find framerates similar or lower than in the Hind when flying from the pilot seat and fps are approx. 10 lower when switching to CPG (might dip even lower, just guessing).

• Pilot in a simple navigation mission (2xMFD, UFC, IHADDS) in the Caucasus flown 105 KIAS@50-500 ft, I see 35-55 fps

• CPG in a more complex "Hellfire" mission with AI Hip/Hind  flying about, moving convoys, radar SAMs, Carriers, etc. and AI George hovering at 100ft, I saw 35 fps with dips as low as 24.

Hard to say how much was due to AI units and how much was due to CPG with the extra displays/FLIR overlay (2xMFD (1xFLIR background), UFC, TEDAC, IHADDS with FLIR).

I haven't tried optimizing DCS, as I'm still learning/testing and the Apache is still in EA.

The Apache is very demanding when being CPG and zooming on targets and smoke....My FPS drops to around 20-30. Usually in the high 50-60s

There is no trial for Apache atm.

They will add it in at some hopefully not too distant point. I too am waiting for the trial.

Hi.

My system is even worse (way worse) than yours and I can fly/combat with it the same as other modules; to me no issues.

I can't be on super hight setup settings, but enough to fully enjoy the experience!
