IFF in ACM mode

bump, @BIGNEWY can we get an update on the situation?

Still an issue, especially on multiplayer servers with every plane on either side this is a bit frusttrating.

Whats weired is that before you lock a target in acm mode in STT TMS left still does interogate, but once lock is achieved, the lock is dropped.

TMS left short should enable one of the ACM search modes, that might be why it's dropping the lock.

TBH, if you're in ACM, you can probably see the roundels on the aircraft you're spiking, anyway. 🙂 The Mk1 Eyeball has a pretty reliable IFF system built-in.

yeah i can see it alright, but what does it matter if all planes are on all sides, and as you might be aware livery unlocker pass ICC and even if the server restricted you can use any livery.

And what do you do now.

Also do add, what if there is a merge and u picked him up on Vert scan, and its a fire or disengae/die situation, and you dont know which one you have locked up friendly you try to save or enemy.

What do you do on night ops.....

That's a problem with how servers are set up and/or how people play, it's not a problem with the module. IRL, you don't often have the same type of aircraft on opposing coalitions, but even if you do, you deal with it through proper situational awareness and sensor practices, planning and usage of other tools at your disposal, such as comms. Unfortunately, these are all things that people often do not make use of, in DCS.

We have some type of law here on forums, even when the problem is obvious, someone will defend to death till the admins declare as a bug.

Maybe because the "problem" exists in the real jet. Or maybe it doesn't, now that I look at the docs, TMS left doesn't seem to have a different function in ACM. So maybe it is a bug.

You don't use ACM. In a pitch-black night, even with NVGs, keeping tally is practically impossible unless someone lights the cans. At the merge, most of the time the bandit will simply vanish, and so will you. Night fighter tactics are very different from day and rely heavily on radar.

ACM specifically doesn't utilize TMS left for anything so that interrogation is possible. Remember that AIFF interrogation is valid against both air and ground targets. You can TMS left to interrogate in A-G/FCR GM. TMS left interrogates with very few exceptions:

  • WPN SOI, RECCE, or TGP
  • After receipt of a DL TOI (displays DL CAS or DL SEAD)

Even if the FCR is off or standby the AIFF will still interrogate. TMS left in ACM should interrogate (and not drop lock).
