Barometric altimeter not agreeing the radar altimeter when plane above the sea?!

Recommended Posts

Is it a possible problem, or it is only my problem? I am flying a Hornet over Marianas and find that both altimeter does not agree with each other. Thanks in advanced.

Apparently radar altimetres are not very reliable above water in real life either. It does make sense when you think about it 🙂

Air pressure is not a constant value.

Are you sure you set the right one on the altimeter?

Possible. Let me check the manuals first.

Okay, my mission set the Hornet at 500 ft MSL

However, in plane:Screen_220421_115014.jpg

But switching to radar altimeter, it is correct:

just adjust your altimeter setting until it agrees with your radalt signal, this then should give you the correct altimeter setting in theory.. Not sure what the hornet height is for loss of radalt signal but the aircraft i fly on it's 5000 ft. So after 5K your radalt is unreliable and not to be used, and not sure why you would want to at that height anyways (AGL)

Naval aviators set their radar alt warnings to various checkpoints in CASE I and III recoveries, as well as for cat launches for an eject decision should the shot go bad, so the tolerances should be good enough. Otherwise there would be no point in setting the radar alt in such a way.
