Quick 3090 vram question

I have a 3080Ti with 12gb of Vram. I notice when playing in VR on high setting I am seeing mem utilization around 12100 and everything seems to be running fine all though its in the yellow in my MSI. For those of you that have 3090 can you use any more than 12Gb of vram in DCS being you have 24Gb or is it maxing out at 12 for you as well?

I've gone above, depending upon the map and mission.  I went with the high VRAM because I use my gaming rig for VR, 90% of the time.  I figured why not, max it out.  Plus, I was lucky to score an FE when shortly after it came out.  (I count my lucky stars for that, and being able to buy it at MSRP).

I got my 3090 for the same reason.  I've only played around with fps4vr a couple times.  With my settings, the Apache on the ground attack training starts at 19.1G and keeps going up slowly.  Highest I've seen is 22.5G on that module.  I loaded up the F16 and got 14-16G usage.  Another forum user educated me on the fact that DCS allocates whatever it can get for VRAM, but it might not actually be using all of what it's allocated.  The 3080Ti is also a beast, and If you aren't having problems I wouldn't worry about the VRAM.

I get 8.1gb VRAM usage with my 8gb 3070, as above DCS grabs as much of it as it can but doesn't necessarily utilise it all.

The only time I've had apparent lack of VRAM issues is when flying subsequent missions it switching planes but I think that's more of a memory hole bug somewhere in steamvr as if never happens in openxr.

If you were actually out of VRAM then I think you'd know about it, don't worry 😄

Yeah that’s the thing about the 3090 and it’s 24gb of vram … you just don’t have to worry about it and focus on other areas. Its the best gpu for VR.

Just recently I was noticed my 3090 vrams hitting 23.8 and getting stutters and then freezing. The issue was wmr4s beta update  and had to revert to another version. And that fixed my issue.

i went from a 1080ti to a 3080ti.  My GPU mem is maxed in DCS.   Looks like one can actually buy a 3090ti...I am tempted...my 3080ti is a month old...hm.  I am guessing DCS will take all the VRam you have.

I tested it once flying a couple of missions, most I saw used on my 3090 was 14 GB.

I got a 3090ti last week. No regrets... Don't have to spend so much effort tinkering with my settings now, and it looks AWESOME

Thanks guys. These where the answers I was looking for. Being I am not running into issues and its butter smooth most of the time I will stay where I am  at. I am running 3080Ti and with a +145 core clock and +1000 on the Ram I am seeing my GPU is processing at 2100Mhz and 45 FPS while playing DCS. Occasionally, I will see it spike to 2115Mhz. I do have my GPU fans at 100%. Its not quiet that is for sure. I am going to hold off on the 3090 and see what comes of the new 4000 series.

Again Thanks a ton for the responses. This has really helped me figure out what I need to do next.

Same as crispy12 I also have a 3090Ti since last week to replace my 3080Ti. I don't usually buy GPU's when the new generation is about to come out, but if these last two years have taught me anything, it's that a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush...😅

🔴 Running DCS on a 4K monitor RTX 3090Ti only performs 10% more fps than 3080Ti, but things change when we fly in VR, getting 150% extra performance. For some reason 3090Ti's 24GB of VRAM suits DCS VR just fine. This is a very aggressive and disproportionate test since everything is maxed out, but it makes the comparison even more impressive.

🔴 Same settings on an UltraWide monitor at 3840x1600

Yup the 24gb of vram is the key to good vr performance and maxed out setting from there you just gotta take what it gives you.
