Will the S-3B come with tanker version as well? You never mentioned it or I missed the info.

The news on George/Petrovich target ID is fantastic, especially that it's more in depth than merely instant identification

Does this line "the presence of the vehicles in a coalition" mean that if there are also, for example, T-72s in your coalition and also the enemy coalition then it will take longer to ID them? Sounds awesome if so!

You're absolutely right - hopefully they're developing the tech in such a way that it can be implemented into the AI more wiely. AI air-to-air and air-to-ground spotting based on the criteria outlined in the newsletter would truly make it 'game-changing'.

Well, having a separate 'tanker version' is more of a DCS-ism, IRL there is no 'tanker version' it's just a regular S-3B loaded with a buddy store.

I'm guessing the reason why DCS treats the 2 as completely separate (when really, the buddy store should just be a loadout option) is due to some aerial refuelling limitation.

Yeah I know, KS-3A was the early variant but S-3B gained "K" through the buddy store. Maybe I should phrase my question differently but it stands. I saw no mention or screenshot of S-3B configured for AAR.

AFAIK, while it's theoretically just another loadout option, IRL they generally reserve specific airframes to be tankers, and the buddy store typically stays attached to them. They may not be different from the other S-3s, but the buddy pod does get special treatment IRL.

That may be - it still isn't a different aircraft type.

And when we get the A-6E, if we get the ability to mount buddy stores, it'll be a pain if we have to have 2 separate entries to support the tanker role, despite them doing things like this:

Depending on how old the AAR code is, it might not be feasible to rework it. It may date back to LOMAC, which would make it old enough to possibly make it necessary to essentially implement it anew. As such, I doubt we'll get buddy stores as loadout options, and certainly not for the player. We'd just have to deal with it being two separate aircraft types.

Well, it probably is pretty old though it's hardly the only thing. FWIW that's not the only limitation of it either, such as it not supporting multi-type refuelling - which is already a problem for our MPRS equipped KC-135R. We are however, getting more off-topic now (though I was the one who brought it up).
