Feedback Thread - Tomcat Patch 18th May 2022

Dear all,

as usual we would like to kindly ask for your feedback regarding the latest patch. As always, thank you for your great input and continued support!

Our apologies again that the pilot body could not make it into this patch. We hope that the many improvements will bring you still plenty of joy though, particulary the ACLS, new abilities for mission creators, and many long asked for inputs for both pilot and RIO.

DCS: F-14 Tomcat by Heatblur Simulations

  • Complete ACLS overhaul:
    • ACLS will engage correctly within parameters now and fly a stable approach.
    • Safe engagement should be considered within 2.5° of the glidepath and 1° of the glideslope (+/-300 feet) at or around 3nm behind the carrier.
    • Glideslope has been adjusted from 3° to 3.5°.
    • Fixed VDI Caution Lights for ACLS.
  • Improved Autothrottle.
  • Fixed Authothrottle not disengaging with weight on wheels.
  • Synchronised disengagement in GT+ALT hold.
  • Fixed a small error in pitch dampening.
  • Fixed DLC not disengaging at MIL power with weight on wheels.
  • Added new DCS ACLS and Datalink to the Forrestal (for the F-18, not for the Tomcat).
  • Fixed ICLS point of origin for the Forrestal.
  • Adjusted runway azimuth for the Forrestal.
  • Forrestal: fixed taking damage when planes land on the deck.
  • Fixed Sparrow BRSIT: flood antenna only enabled after launch, and short LTE for first missile.
  • Fixed Jester tuning bad radio frequency during carrier cold start.
  • New SetCommand for Jester:
    • arg 10015 - tune AN/ARC-182 to a selected channel with the value  0.XX where XX is the two-digit channel number
    • arg 10016 - tune TACAN channel. The value should be constructed using the following guide: “0.XXXZ” - use negative (-0.XXXZ) values for A/A and positive for T/R. “XXX” is the three-digit channel number (001, 010, 100, etc.). Z is 0 for using X-mode, and 1 for using Y-mode.
      • example: “0.0630” is channel “63X, T/R” and “-0.0081” is channel “8Y, A/A”.
  • Added LANTIRN external draw arguments for Mission Creators:
    • The following args can be used to obtain the components of a unit vector aligned with the LANTIRN sensor:
      • LANTIRN_HeadX = 1023,
      • LANTIRN_HeadY = 1024,
      • LANTIRN_HeadZ = 1025.
  • Fixed pilot being able to disarm the RIO’s ejection seat.
  • AIM-54A now has a white default texture and uses a texture separate from the AIM-54C.
  • Fixed texture seam running along top of AIM-54C.
  • Added additional mesh detail to the gun tube.
  • Re-textured gun tube internals.
  • Improved modelling of TCS camera model.
  • Retextured TCS pod internals.
  • Improved TCS glass for a more accurate, coated look.
  • Increased reflectivity of HUD lens in exterior view.
  • Lower sidewinder station (shoulder) pylon extension texture added.
  • Lower sidewinder station launcher now properly represents a LAU-7.
  • Added textures to lower sidewinder station LAU-7.
  • Added texture for lower shoulder sidewinder station.
  • Fixed tacan presets for IA Case 3 missions and added Case3 briefing image.
  • Changed Normandy IA Case 3 missions to use CV-59 Forrestal.
  • Fixed AI blocking catapults in Marianas IA Mission Op. Clay Dagger.
  • Fixed INS mode switch bindings not being functional.
  • Fixed VHF/UHF ARC-182 Volume Pilot Inc/Dec keybindings.
  • Added “_(name)” for default.lua in mods/inputs.
  • Added new bindable inputs for the pilot:
    • Pilot Oxygen Toggle

Can someone translate the ARC-182 and TACAN set commands as well as LANTIRN external draw arguments into layman terms? I'm not following.

Go into the triggers menu, set whatever type and condition you want then under actions you want to select new and you're after X: SET COMMAND WITH VALUE. With that selected, you'll want to type in the argument in the COMMAND field (10015 for the AN/ARC-182, 10016 for the TACAN) and in VALUE field type the desired value (so for the AN/ARC-182 typing 0.13 will set Jester to tune it to channel 13), similar thing with the TACAN (for instance -0.029Z will set Jester to tune it to 029Y A/A mode).

Not sure about the external draw arguments, presumably they're something for lua scripting.

On the needles, on speed, landing configuration with AP and ACL mode engaged. The A/P CPLR light never shows up, pressing the AP Reference Button does nothing either

I also tried this with full flaps instead of just DLC just in case, same result. I haven't tested this with the non super carrier

hb pls fixnull

  • Whilst AT has far more resolution now, it's still difficult to engage unless the throttle is put into a specific position (just above idle).  Sometimes taking multiple attempts to engage.  Not sure if this is accurate.  It used to engage anywhere between idle and about 60%.
  • The auto-throttle light (in yellow, below the NWS light) come on for a few secs when engaging/disengaging.  Is this accurate?  Seems strange that it wouldn't just remain illuminated when it's engaged.
  • After landing using auto-throttle and ACLS the plane trims full nose down (and sometimes full nose up).  Despite auto-pilot being disengaged automatically with weight on wheels, cycling of the AP switch is required to give you back control.

I do like the new keybinds and textures, but I noticed some issues with the new emergency wing sweep lever axis, as detailed in my bug thread here:

Also, one keybind that still needs to be added is an "speedbreak open else closed" option for those of us who still use the X-55/56 HOTAS.

Any word on the track playback fidelity not correctly translating plane movement?  Unfortunately, the 'multiplayer' server side-step doesn't work for me, either.  Thanks for the updates!

The thing that is missing now is that the LAU-138 is no longer modeled in the external model with that LAU-7 update. You guys gotta texture it and throw it onto 8A and 1A.

That’s almost certainly an ED side issue.

To engage AT you have to be between 75 and 90% RPM, else it will not engage.

Anyone notice some wonkiness with the fuel usage, at least in the A model?  On my first flight since the patch, the right side gauge  went pretty much to empty while left side was still over 50%.  I ended up flaming out the right engine while I still had plenty of gas on the left side.  On subsequent flight, it wasn't so bad, but the right side fuel gauge still went much lower then the left.

I didn't see anything about this in the patch notes, but it seems like something has changed.

A couple of things about the fuel feed issue:

Fuel feed is affected in general, i.e. fuel appears to draw only from AFT/L no matter the power setting. Its just way more pronounced in AB.

Flicking the FEED switch to AFT or FWD, then back to NORM fixes the issue.

The above must be done only once. After that, spawning in a new aircraft/starting a new mission will have no issues. I therefore believe its some sort of faulty initialization of the fuel system.

Hello all,

Is there any news on the super carrier burble/wake turbulence settings interacting with the F-14 burble? I didn’t see it mentioned in the patch notes unless I missed something. 🙇‍♂️

ED told us it was fixed in the (then) next revision, but if it is not in their changelog, it may not have made it into the patch still. Internally at least it is disabled now from their side (for the F14), so in the F14 you can have wake turbulence on for other modules, but the F14 will use its own in the future.

Hello,

FFB issues will be take in consideration in others patchs ?

Thanks for the answer.

We are still trying to figure out what is actually going wrong, but it is definitely a priority item.
