Hello folks, just curious if anyone has successfully built an F-5E sim pit? I'd like to build one as well!

Also wondering where the best place to find cockpit dimensions is. Ideally would love to line things up 1:1 for vr use!

Cheers!

Hi! I built a general purpose pit, roughly patterned off the SU-25 (I got a DVD from EBay with printable panel images, not quite legit (one of the panels was a TFR panel from an F-111 LOL!), but good enough to print full-size and provide decoration.

There is a forum here dedicated to sim pits, I couldn't find it until I did  a search, so here's the link:

All the info you'll need (including proper fonts for US aircraft) can be found there. I remember a few years ago (3?) where someone built the weapons control panel for the F-5E, basic panel but well done.

This is awesome!!

It's something 🙂 Also, I aim to make all the information usable by others. If my project flops, let it at least prevent a situation where another grunt has to start from scratch again. Even though the scope of the project is very limited, intentionally from the start, it still *can* flop.

I'll be ditching my current job soon so make sure to hit that "Follow" button in my thread. You might see a surge of updates 😉

I've been working on a 3D printable F-5E Left Console. Roughly based on the 'Authentikit' process but not compatible with regard to momentary switches and universal HUB.

So far, I have worked my way forward on the left console panel to the throttle quadrants using momentary switches and rotary encoders. Yes the TDC works (4x tactile switches) as does the elevation wheel (also rotary encoder).

There are probably better versions out there (Bucic yours will be better) however this has been an exercise in learning as much as anything else. Thanks to all who have posted images etc (especially those with tape measures in them), I have collected quite a few and watch a lot of Youtube on this plane. No I don't have accurate design drawings to work from.

At this point I intend to stop and reassess after the throttles are done. I should have a usable rig for the important stuff with my head in a VR set.

If anyone is interested (and has a 3D printer) I'm happy to provide more info and share the .stl files.

Otherwise I look forward to seeing the work of others.

@Bcamel1

This is looking absolutely great!

How the hell did you reckon that mine will be better? Panels are of secondary importance in my project 🙂

Bcamel1, I don't mean to act like a self-appointed admin but please at least consider the following:

1. Simpit stuff is being moved to the dedicated forum section by the admins. I think you should post all of the above either in "my topic" (it's newer) or in the F-5E cockpit panels topic (its theme is more appropriate to your work)

2. There's a new admin-created topic that is supposed to be serving as a 3D printable component library

I'll add links later.

Thanks for the comments Bucic. I'm fairly new to this forum so not sure of my way around yet (Google led me here first). I'll look for the topics you have mentioned (or wait for your links).

I thought your prep work was really good and anticipate a really good build! I'll be watching 🙂

@Bcamel1 Welcome to the forums then! 🙂

I've aded some links above. If you choose to contribute to the 3D part repository, in my opinion, you should decide where you post your cockpit progress info and post a single link in the 3D part repository thread.
