M08 crash issue...

Recommended Posts

Hi BD.

First congrats to you, Hoser, Jello and the whole team on a fantastic campaign.  Loving it so far.
Raven One was a high water mark, and you've just reset it with DF.

M08 Issues:

1- The target co-ords are wrong on the kneeboard notes.

----WARNING: Potential spoiler below!!

2- I've now tried M08 4 times and every time I form up with Redkite after he's hit the sim crashes.  I usually catch him just after we pass over the first mountain peaks.

It might be just my computer freaking out, but other missions and campaigns seem to work fine so i thought id mention it here and see if anyone else is having similar issues...?

Also getting the crash, though at this point I've tried the mission 8 times. Same exact situation. Red gets hit, then when flying over the mountains back to the coast the sim crashes.

Attaching the logfile below. Maybe someone can make better sense of it than me. This campaign is *chef's kiss*.

  • 2 weeks later...

Jumping in with the same problem.

Try 1 game crashed when rejoining with RED before feet wet.

Try 2 game crashed after feet wet when RED joins on Flip.

Try 3 fired my maverick, ignored RED entirely, and went buster straight home to mother... game crashed 2 minutes from landing. Heart broken.

Open to advice or hopefully ED can solve.

Other than being stuck here I'm absolutely loving the campaign. Thanks!

Hey! Do you have any 3rd party mods enabled? I had issues reported by people several times and in most cases they were gone after disabling the mods. Even had someone trying to play the whole campaign in Superhornet - unfortunately many 3rd party mods are not compatible with DLC campaigns. Try to disable them and run the repair. I cannot reproduce the CTDs and a lot of folks have finished the campaign without a single CTD... which means that the problem is likely on your end and not with the campaign. Let me know if removing the mods works.

I am having same issue, even after updating to latest DCS version.

I have no crashes whatsoever when playing MP for hours, or other missions/campaigns.

Everytime Red and I are feet wet the game crash, tried it a couple of times with no success.

This is a shot in the dark....in certain other campaigns from my multiplayer group, we've had issues with cruise missiles impacting terrain/acting weirdly and freezing up people's DCS. I remembered there being something in the briefing about cruise missiles from the task force in this mission....haven't had a chance to look in Tacview but any chance the Tomahawks are whacking something out (and they just happen to impact right around the time we are rejoining with Red?)

Just completed the mission after a crash on the first attempt.

Couple of points :

1/Kneepad coordinates are wrong as stated (both are wrong, but very wrong ^^ for example for the north you have a .70 for the seconds.. not possible ^^)

2/ Before my crash I noticed a HUGE drop of FPS.. then a crash.. I've noticed it's because I was rejoining Red with my radar, but my FLIR was still on and thus locked on Red and on the heavy smoke.. looks like my computer didn't like it at all..

I switch my FLIR off after firing my maverick. Mission worked like a charm.

What's wrong with the coordinates?

I can enter them in normal mode just fine, they'll be missing the last 2 digits then, or in PRECISE format, and they're exactly on the target.

It's because you are much smarter than me 😉😉

Not sure because it is out of habit or because the other coordinates on the picture of the target are in the other format, or because in the kneepad it is listed N34.01.70.95 but actually I did press Lat LN on the HSI after using precise coordinates.

But actually if you use the other format (the one by default) you are indeed able to enter N34.01.7095 ... of course N34.01.70.95 can't exist because in that format you can't have seconds over 60.

Ok, guys. Deactivated all my mods except the official ones. Still the mission is crashing right after the BDA confirmation of the Ravens after "feet wet". I checked dcs.log - no error messages 😞

Update:
I just found two messages in DCS-BIOS.log (which has a timestamp that fits the time of the crash):

Util.lua: value 524053.000000 is too large for address 29944 mask 65535
Util.lua: value 1900515.000000 is too large for address 29950 mask 65535

Maybe that has something to do with the crash. I can't test again until tomorrow evening but maybe this info helps you guys.

Ok, looks like the DCS-BIOS messages aren't related to the crash. However, on my last test I got the following log messages right when the crash happens:

2022-08-06 14:23:29.358 ERROR   SOUND: invalid source_params(woLA-16806656:aircrafts/uh-60/enginel): gain

2022-08-06 14:23:29.358 ERROR   SOUND: invalid source_params(woLA-16806656:aircrafts/uh-60/distant_flyby_b): gain

Anybody know what those mean and maybe has a workaround?

I always hit a permanent freeze where DCS quits responding at the end of mission 8, around 50 nm from Mother. I have the same errors in my log but they happen more than 10 minutes before the freeze:

The good news is that I skipped Mission 8 and mission 9 is an excellent mission that I was able to land without a freeze.

No mods at all, I even removed Tacview and ran a cleanup and slow repair before my last RODF08 freeze. No doubt it's a DCS bug, possibly the same as a similar issue others have reported related to AI Tomcats in the 2.7 bug forum. This mission is the only place I've encountered it. I'm 3 freezes on 3 attempts at completing it. I wonder what's happening in the mission that causes the bug to revel itself and if the circumstances can be replicated in a shorter mission to help ED track the bug down?

Hi @baltic_dragon

I seem to be having the exact same, or extremely similar issue that Roosterfeet is having.

I have made 10 attempts now, 9 of them crashed to desktop between 67 and 50 miles out from Mother, the 10th crashed +-20miles out from the Tanker (Hoped tanking would make a difference).
All other aspects of the mission work flawlessly except for a strange black screen that appears to block out my forward view,  the whole screen goes black until I look around a bit, then it clears up. This only happens over the target area while orbiting and waiting for the second set of targets, and it happens every time.

3 Missions were flown after the initial release.
3 after patch 2.7.16.27869.
3 after patch 2.7.16.28111.
1 after Hotfix patch 2.7.16.28157 (Tonight).

After patch 2.7.16.27869 I removed all these mods: ReShade, VNAO T45, Tactical AWACS, 476 Range Targets, China Assets Pack.
After patch 2.7.16.28111 I went further and also removed Tacview, did a deep repair and Re-Installed All my campaigns.
I made sure to clear my fxo and metashaders2 folders after each update.

Currently I have the following DCS items installed: F/A-18C, F-14, Super Carrier, Marianas, Nevada, Persian Gulf, Syria, Operation Cerberus North, Raven One and Raven One - Dominant Fury.
I am running the following DCS Related items in the background:
- DCS Bios - To run my Logitec Flight Panel
- PW-Dev Script/LUA to run my DCS UFC app on my tablet
- Matric - Runs a digital button box on my tablet (Similar to GameGlass)
- SRS is open in background
- Facetrack NoIR head-tracking
- My custom display setup LUA

On another screen I have Adobe Acrobat reader open for the kneeboard pdf's and Smart PSS to keep an eye on our home security cameras and sometimes Discord

I have the logs from 4 mission after patch 2.7.16.27869 that I have attached.
