If you invest so much time and attention to detail in the BUFF, you should make it a full fidelity module

would be great, but not planned currently.

I love the BUFF. Any chance of additional variants, while you're at it? I'd love to see the Vietnam-era G model, maybe also a "big belly" D model, to give the Phantom something to escort. 🙂 Earlier variants could be nice as well, but they were nuke haulers with surprisingly limited conventional bomb capacity (what the big belly mod fixed, when it turned out there's more demand for carpet bombing than for nukes).

ED has none talking about variants, in self has update very old 3d models to actual standards.

Yes, but they're AI aircraft, so making the variants basically means a few slightly different meshes. Most major parts are the same, the B-52 didn't change all that much over all these years. Even if we get them later, because they'd need to code in the new units, it's still a good time to make their models.

I’m curious why it’s taking ED over 6 months to make a basic 3D model of an AI asset and it’s still not in the game… a model of similar quality could’ve been bought from various websites in like 1 minute. That and the fact we still don’t have proper mipmaps and LODs to actually help with performance. That should be a priority and not be left until after early access, be it for a module or an AI model. Would be nice to get an explanation for this twisted process

Hi,

new model work takes time, we do our own work we are not buying it from other sites.

If you have ever done model work you will know how long good quality models take.

Appreciate you may not have the patience for waiting but this kind of work will always take time, we share progress with you all when we can.

thank you

@FoxTwo227 When ED or its authorized developers create a fully functional high-fidelity jet, chopper, or map, they usually spent a couple of years.  That means they build everything from scratch starting from the ground going up.  Here are some recent examples.  The South Atlantic (SA) Map was in development for four real-world years.  The Mirage-2000 was in development for 8 years!

When the developers are making their air frames, they make it as close to the real thing as possible.  Depending on the company or contract, you might have one or two developers that are working on the coding.

Obviously, we want instant gratification with new choppers, jets, mods, and campaigns in the virtual world.  In the real world, we exercise patience while enjoying what is available.

I’m not talking modules though. The B-52 for sure isn’t going to be one, there is no point in making it super HQ when it’s never gonna be super close in a players view. It just doesn’t have to look like a potato, like the current ones. Ppl put AI planes in as ramp fillers most of the time or they’re off out or view doing some AI tasking. It’s just a waste of development time imo. Could’ve overhauled like 70% of the current LOMAC models in the same amount of time we’ve now been waiting for an updated B-52 model

I do very much agree and to add to that, I do also wonder when the hh60 model rework is going to be worked on, not only has it been 2 or 3 years since players who bought the supercarrier had to see that disgusting model but even before that, those who bought the fa18 and operated from the free stennis had to deal with that too.

From my point of view, ED hasn't got their priorities straight.

Well, it's gonna be seen up close when it's on ramp, or when you're holding hands with one while escorting. This level of detail is simply what's expected of assets in this day and age.

Sure they’ll be close, but not so close we need every little rivet, wrinkle or nut and bolt modeled. Most of that you can just cleverly make part of the texture and be done with it. Again, it’s not going to be something you’ll be looking for more than a few mins tops, even during escorts you’re not gonna be right on top of it (if you are you’re doing it wrong).

You're welcome to use the current one.

I for one can't wait for the beautiful one ED is making

NGL, I'm stoked for the MF1 release. But I'm still unsure if I might just die from the 42 centigrades that's coming to a country where AC is an alien concept still around the same time. Gonna be rough... I'll try not to dealwithit.png

At least my rig will survive, it has plenty of Noctuas installed, even on the GPU (guess my profile needs an update there, think it still has the 1080). Maybe I should get some and just wear 'em awesome.png

I mean, it just needs to be about 20% cooler rainbowdashwink.png

Because it's not just "basic 3D model":

  • high-polygon model, so they don't have to upgrade it 2 years later
  • high-res textures for different countries, groups, variants and seasons
  • dynamic IR textures
  • LODS and mipmaps
  • damage model
  • animations and additional model arguments
  • movement/FM parameters
  • available weapons firing/releasing parameters
  • systems like radios, radars and other sensors...
  • ME: available tasks, commands and features, countries and historical mode database update
  • CA integration

Some things may not be applicable to AI B-52H or to the model update, some I might have forgotten.

Here's the news that used to link to the great document on how DCS 3D AI models are made but the links are broken now. @BIGNEWY ? It'd come in handy now.

Intentional, the team was not happy with it and it was removed.

Hello ED team I love to see the improvement on B-52H AI model to me it needed to be improved never a waste of time or resources.

3D assets has planeed from some years ago, and on your plans enter add new AI 3D units, and redone the oldest, from Lomac / FC to actual standars.

AI Units

New and Updated assets

Because DCS World is built on a project spanning almost two decades, some units now show their age and will be updated throughout the year. It is also important that we add new units to better fill the battlefields. Here are some of the items that we intend to create or update in 2021:

Large Aircraft: B-52H, Tu-95MS, Tu-142, B-1B, IL-38, and Tu-160

Carrier Aircraft: S-3B and SH-60B

Ground Units: M1A2, AMX-56 Leclerc, Wespe Sd.Kfz.124, KS-19 100mm ADA, Son-4 “Flap Wheel” radar, C1 Ariete, Pantsir SA-22 “Greyhound”, and S-300/SA-10 “Grumble”.

The AI assets team never has to do with other ED teams.
