Auranis
Title is self-explanatory. Just curious about this topic, since a while back Gyrovague said that lofting would be disabled for Sparrows generally (link: https://www.reddit.com/r/hoggit/comments/fmezjy/comment/fl8clnq/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3 ), however it appears this was not done for the MH and now the P. Currently the pilot can disable lofting by flipping up the ACM cover, but the RIO has no equivalent ability. Thanks for taking the time to read. near_blind
Why would the RIO specifically have a mechanism to enable or disable loft?
lunaticfringe
The 7MH has 13 launch modes. The 7P has 20. Only three of these in either variant are accessible to the flight crew, and the only way to negate the loft profile in any of them is the ACM switch.
Spurts
SP PD switch isn't what enables the loft?
near_blind
That switch determines how the radar will support a Sparrow, shouldn't have any effect on lofting
Auranis
Well, part of the reason I ask is that the ACM switch also disables the RIOs launch button. To me it seems like the loft should be completely disabled, as per Gyrovague's comment there isn't evidence to support it being available. But it's been two years so it seems like some evidence has turned up?
near_blind
I would reference Lunatic Fringe's comment. The last models of the Sparrow are smarter than you might expect.
Naquaii
We have information saying that the F-14 could support the loft modes but no other way to control it other than the ACM cover and the range. As with the AIM-54. Afaik there's no other way in the F-14 to control the loft of a missile.

We only allow it to loft or not. We do not set the range.
