Buy or Build PC for VR (UK)

Recommended Posts

If someone got the talent it is 100% worth learning basic computer hardware stuff.

You don't need a MSCE certificate to build, run and service your very own rig. It also pays if you understand the OS a bit more than average joe, again, you don't need to be a dev to properly configure windows.

Those, who for what ever reason cannot put their minds and hands into this, pay guys like me so that their stuff runs as intended and that someone also tells them what it can all do, what makes sense and what better not ;). Those who can answer this to themselves save a ton of money and get a faster pace in getting things done whenever a PC is involved.

It's like owning a car, either you can fix it yourself or you need a garage and have to pay. It's easier to fix a PC than a car, hands down.

So still sticking with EVGA card but Ti only delivers 10% more for 30% higher in price...so I am still not sure.

I watch this several time through:

I have built a PC from components long long time ago, over 18 years ago. I don't think I can handle the current level of tech now. I don't mind paying a bit more and ask OC or Scan to build it for me.

Almost forgot to ask: where can I get legal, legitimate, genuine Windows 10 CD Key for a new computer? I heard that many sites are doing a sale now. Which one do you recommend?

Not sponsored,

I used https://www.cyberpowersystem.co.uk/ for my last custom build, I have used them twice now and always been happy.

Argeed easier now, more bulky power wires and a desire to hide them is probably the hardest thing. That's not technical either, more a test of flair and patience! But it will still work even if it's messy.

You can get these on Amazon, just be sure that it is an OEM key you are buying and not VOLUME. Just read reviews and make sure it's a good seller (ask the question too!) I think they are usually around £15. You used to be able to get really cheap keys for around £3 quid on eBay (Volume keys), these are actually a bit grey but I've done it before and never had any problems.

I can only find one for Win11....it may not work well with VR so I wish to stick with Win10.

Ah yes, good point. That's all I can see too. I will be wondering the same thing when I do.my next one. For what it's worth I think most of the VR issues are fine and I probably would go 11. There is also a sponsor for a UK YT tech channel that is probably a good reseller. Can't remember the company but the channel is red gaming tech.

Edit: just checked. It's called whokeys. Never used them yet but that's probably where I would go. Seems like sponsorship works 😂

Off-topic: OC UK has a NVIDIA GPU sales week now. Still no slash for RTX 3090 Ti right now, but I guess it is a sign to com.

Somebody recommends PC Part Picker site on another thread. Check it and it is a bit over £200 saving if you pick the parts and build it yourself.

Silly question: would Black Friday / Cyber Monday here in the UK actually help with the prices, if I was buying a custom system? Thanks in advanced.

It has before, but it is dependant on how the market is at the time. If there is high demand then don't expect much, if there is new stuff the older stuff might be discounted but then again it may not be all that available. I would have thought you would get some discounts.

Learn prices now, so you know what's good and what isn't when it comes round to later on. Winter sales are one thing but new generations will also have their affect.

Well, this is the season of new generation, and now there is i5-13600K and the benchmarks looks very appealing, "beating" R7 5800x3D all around. But it is just a little less expensive. As a matter of fact, the major chunk of cost will be going to the GPU... 😨

I think the 13700 will be a good choice, seems the 13900 is just load of power and heat. I was waiting on these release to decide on new system. Now I feel like I want to wait until AM5 X3D, trouble is there will always be something to wait for! My current PC is still fine for everything else, so it will be a DCS dedicated machine.

I am not sure about i7 13700K as there ain't many benchmarks out there yet. I agree on the i9 part though. To me,  the new i5 costs about £100 less so it is quite attractive to me. I may not be able to wait till the new X3D but who know what will happen in November.

The AMD 7000X3D will be unveiled in CES2023 (January, I think), which means February 2023 is when it might be out (we'll see).
It should be really good. The problem, other than the wait (and availability) is the prices, which should be pretty salty (over 500€ expected). The X670, B650 and B650E motherboards are (currently) also not really affordable, same for the 64GB kits of DDR5 (recommended by AMD is DDR5 6000 CL30, check the prices...).

Reviews are out and the i7 13700KF and i5 13600K are definitely very competitive and actually the value kings, considering that you can (other than with DDR5) still get it running with DDR4, with excelent performance. And that's possible with the least expensive Z790 DDR4 motherboards - which can support DDR4 RAM you may already have from a previous system or, if not, the far more affordable 64GB kits of DDR4 3600 CL18 RAM (now going for 230€, give or take).
Really, if it's a matter of budget (also because of GPU and PSU prices involved in a new system) I think the CPU+Mobo+RAM combo here is a no brainer.

I end up with CyberPowerPC as recommended above. Thanks, it has been nice as first, they are very responsive to my questions and requests. They give me free upgrade to the PSU and NVMe as I guess my picks were no longer available. Also, as I choose RTX-4090 as the GPU, I get the better Corsair power cables at no extra cost.

FYI, I found a loophole in their configuration system that I can get the same configuration at a lower price. Shh...
