TrackIR 5 with NVIDA GPU Drivers???

TonyRS

Recommended Posts

Just (almost) completed my PC build to get into DCS. One thing I'm missing is Track IR. I was just about to purchase when I read that TrackIR 5 software does not work on windows with the latest NVIDIA GPU drivers installed (version 516.59 Dated 06 June 2022). I built my PC after June 2022 so the latest NVIDIA GPU Driver is the only one that has been installed on my PC. It has been suggested I use an 'older driver' but, I'm not keen to 'revert' to 'older stuff'

Can anyone confirm how widespread this issue might be? Does everyone who has upgraded NVIDIA drivers to latest version (516.59 Dated 06 June 2022) have a problem running TrackIR 5 or is the issue particular to some peoples setups?

Can anyone confirm they are successfully running TrackIR 5 with DCS on Windows 10 Pro with a RTX 3080ti 12GB GPU with the (above) latest drivers?

Cheers

I don't remember which drivers version I've got now (not at my home PC at the moment), but I certainly installed them in July, so I guess I can answer ;). Win 10 and TiR5 here, working without any issues, as always.

That being said, I haven't updated TiR software/drivers in a few years and I recall there was a time folks here had some issues with new TiR drivers last year (that's why I didn't update these - "if it ain't broken, don't fix it").

So, there is a slight possibility of a problem here (?). But you won't know until you try really.

HI.

Win 10 Pro, NVidia drivers 516.59, and a brand new TrackIr 5 (my old one ver. 4 just died a few weeks ago, so I had to order a new one), and a barely good enough GTX 1050 (2 GB of RAM) and no problems with DCS (besides the obviouse ones of my graphic card)...

Saludos.

I have WIN 10, with RTX 3080 and latest NVIDIA driver and my TrackIR5 works like a swiss watch.

TrackIR is the biggest step forward in flight siming and I do it since the first MSFS and the good old Juck Yeager sim. Next step potential only could be VR

You will love it, I have it since almost two years now and no issues at all

On about 3 Windows 11 Pro updates ago, my Track IR 5 was undetected in windows booting from the update. I thought the hardware went B/O as nothing was detected after trying every USB port. I contacted NaturalPoint, who helped me out pretty quick, just had to delete all sources of TrackIR 5 and reinstall from scratch.

No problem here whatsoever with W10.

I think the real problem many users may be facing is that our hobby eats up almost every available USB port, and then some, and most of them end up drawing current from the motherboard and sharing interrupt requests.  So this becomes a complex issue when you have: mouse, keyboard, HOTAS, rudder pedals, track-ir, more gizmos to control the planes, etc.  So I don't think that people facing issues are seeing a "root" incompatibility, but more a case-by-case problem.

For me, it was ghost commands on the throttle and Corsair liquid cooling header stopped showing.  After some shifting of USB ports, internal USB2 headers swapped and a powered USB hub for everything else (except the throttle which was only happy connected directly to the MOBO), everything is working fine.

So, those facing troubles, be sure that your USBs are not conflicting with each other.

Best regards,

Rafa.

I wonder why TrackIR should be affected by the GPU drivers in the first place. It's an input device and not an output device. It has more in common with a mouse if anything.

I assume people who has reported such things may have confused correlation with causality.

Finally received my TrackIR 5 through post from USA. Works fine, No probs with NVidias latest drivers on Windows 10.

Only disappointment is that the device is NOT recognised when plugged in to my externally powered USB hub. Had to plug it into back of PC for device to be recognised. Don't know why this is so, ALL my other devices work fine through the USB Hub. Also, found USB cable too short.

I use an internal PCIe-Card with 7 external USB-ports. The card gets additional power from the internal power supply. I never had a problem with my USB devices connected to this PCIe-Card.

AFAIK most external USB hubs cause problems with power-hungry devices - even with external power supply.

I‘m driving my TrackIR through a very basic unpowered white label usb hub. Together with the receiver for my wireless mouse and my wired keyboard.

I doubt, that it is an issue with the power needs of trackIR.

But I had problems in the past with different usb ports/hubs. I never pinned down the exact problem, but I strongly suspect certain chipsets to be the problem. Simply put, some of the usb ports on your machine are connected to your cpu and others to the chipset (similar to pcie-devices). Try to choose a different usb port and you may be surprised.

Of course it could as easily just be a hub, that doesn’t like trackIR for whatever reason. The usb-protcol is weird sometimes.

Of course, TrackIR doesn't need much power, but propably the summation of all devices connected to the hub induces the problem - or simply this:

Yeah, I tried  to get one of them when I put my PC together but they were unavailable at the time. Hence my external hub

FWIW I run a Winwing F16EX w shaker, Orion2 throttle, Virpil ACE pedals and both the camera and LED TrakIR5 unit on a powered USB hub. This was a $75.00 hub, not your average low priced hub. I also charge my phone and run an LED R2D2 off of this hub and have zero issues. I havent ran anything but an nVidia card for well over a decade and frankly, Corsair iCUE gives me more issua that any nVidia driver ever has.
