Monkmanner Posted August 7, 2022 Share Posted August 7, 2022 (edited) The aligment is wrong by 15-30 degrees to the left while doing a fine alignment. The carrier was not turning and i was connected to the datalink for CVN-73 which was the carrier that i was on. Sometimes tho the alignment fixes it self while in the air but not always. In the pictures you see below is the final alignment heading and the true? heading from the bar in the external view. Northstar98 Posted August 7, 2022 Share Posted August 7, 2022 (edited) HB have modelled magnetic deviation (note, not declination/variation which is the difference between true and magnetic north) caused by local magnetic fields (like the big steel aircraft carrier you're on). According to the manual, you should use DG mode when magnetic references are unreliable - once you get in the air and magnetic references are reliable again, you should be able to switch to the slaved mode, holding down the HDG knob to sync the DG to the magnetic compass (needle in the sync window should be centred). WelshZeCorgi Posted August 10, 2022 Share Posted August 10, 2022 does this mean that if both lead and wing do this fix, their headings will be comparably accurate to each other? We noticed that the heading differences between ships in multiplayer were off by a lot, making heading changes a bit difficult cause our true headings were off when we went to the assigned heading as directed by the HSI and hud.
