Oculus V43 big stutter fest

Updated to the latest Oculus release today, going from V42 to v43.
Big mistake, after v43 was ready i went in for a little multiplayer and got big stutters every few seconds (it was playing nicely on v42 before).
First thought it could be the server (quite a few people on), quit and started a simple single player mission, same problem.
Oculus doesn't offer a revert option so going back to v42 was out of the question the only option was to delete and re-install.
After re-installation i found that the software reverted back to v42 and was ready for an update to v43.
I declined (postponed for 4 hours) and tested v42, no stutter.
Reloaded, ran de update to v43 again, stutter came back.
Uninstalled everything again, ran the setup which installed v42 again with he question to update to v43 or postpone, postponed, stopped the software and used the update blocking trick to block Oculus from updating to v43.
All is good again now...

A lot of people on the Oculus forum mentioned stutter/flickering problems after updating to the v43 beta.
But somehow this wasn't adressed and the bug made into the release version of v43.
A bit more of this and these guys are on the same level as Garmin.

I think v43 is still PTC. Sensible thing to do is opt out of Beta test and read the forum reaction before opting in.

I'm having issues with v43 and, no, I'm not on PTC. My issue is worse than stutters, link crashes between 2 and 5 mins of starting a mission and the Oculus Home Software start saying that the port is not USB 3... Unplug and replug the cable and it is USB 3 again...

Unfortunately the reinstall of the Oculus software brought back v43...

I have a support ticket open with Oculus... So, I'm going thru the usual script of verifying for them that everything is up to date , try different ports, etc etc... Meanwhile, I'm grounded

For me re-installing brought back v42 but it directly offers v43 when run for the first time (and luckely also the option to postpone so i could block the update).

V42 works nice.

null

30% of the CPU... With the Headset OFF!!! v43 really sucks and the fact that they control when to update , is really making thinking about switching to a different headset

Update:

I managed to revert back to v42 by uninstalling the oculus software and doing a factory reset of the quest 2. Upon reinstalling the Oculus software I applied the no updates trick from the OP.

The v42 software looks like this in the task manager:
null

@Lange_666how do you block Oculus PC software from being updated ? For headset is easy as you can turn Wi-Fi off but the PC app I haven’t seen any option apart from postpone (which eventually doesn’t stop the app from getting what it wants)

instructions are in the readme, inside the file attached to the first post.

I was able to fly with my usual settings and FPS without any issue!

You will have to click through an Oculus "error" telling you that it is unable to update... Funny thing is, they consider that a "critical" error 😄

When a new update is available, the software will tell you there is an update is being downloaded but if you then check the notifications it will be marked as queued. It will stay that way just until you remove de blocking folder/files. On the next restart then the download will take place.

Yes, even as i think it has nothing to do with how or when the PC software updates, first time i run after reinstalling it (doing first the mod of the files) and its already the V43, which makes sense as when you dowload the installer its just an online installer and it download the last public version that is the V43

The first time I did the uninstall/reinstall (last Friday)  I got also v43. This morning, I decided to give it another try... Nothing to lose...

These are the steps I did:
1) uninstall your oculus software
2) factory reset your headset
3) once done, pair it again with your phone and check the version...
4) install oculus software again, have the file that is in the first post of the above thread handy and follow the readme instructions (I also renamed the tmp folder to tmp.bak)
5) restart the pc and check versions.

Don't really know if I got lucky of if the order of the steps really matter...

I hope that Meta get their read end in gear and fix this crap soon.

Chaps,

Do any of you have a direct URL link for the v43 download?

I don't, i just used this link ( https://www.oculus.com/rift/setup/ ) which offered OculusSetup.exe which in turn installed V42 on my system.
I blocked the future updates so V42 will stay there until the problems with V43 are solved.

I tried that.

When I then opened the App, it suggested that my version was out of date and that I should download the newer version.

I have created a new Meta account.

Nice, well done Zucker! They take out the obligation of having a facebook account, but they force you to use it anyways...

Yeah... This whole thing with v43 convinced me to look for a replacement ...

I just updated and can confirm that the CPU usage for oculus stays at 0% in idle...

They had released several builds of v43 ... I have a FB account only but

43.0.0.161.173
43.0.0.175.173

had the issue ( 30 to 60% cpu utilization in idle making PCVR a slide show - not only DCS)... My system was about 45% (using the FB account with those builds)

I got today:

43.0.0.192.173

And, just it case, I logged out re-started and logged back in with my FB accounts. In the  Oculus thread posted above, there are reported cases for users logged in with Meta accounts in supposedly fixed v43 builds reporting high CPU utilization and the recommendation from Oculus, was to log out, restart services and login back with FB account.

I've just been given the solution to my login problem.  For me, the following worked:

 - Within the Oculus home page, change the language a few times, then go back to your native language

 - Open Task Manager, and kill all the Oculus tasks

When I then put my Rift S back on, that resulted in my Oculus sign in page presenting three options, ie. Facebook, Oculus and Meta sign in options.  I was then able to successfully sign in using my new Meta ID.

Hello ,

I believe Lange_666 will not update to 43.0.0.192.173  until v43 stutter are fixed ?

Lange_666 could you tell us what about occulus release on your side ? are you still in v42 ?

Could we status about DCS stutter with v43 first and last release ( 43.0.0.192.173  cpu overhead fix ) ?

CPU overhead was seen when playing DCS in VR ?
or without any game running ?

Thanks,
