Feuerfalke Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 Dunno if it is a bug or feature, but I just played on the 159th server - player vs player. I noticed a helo in front of me who lased me, fired and hid. Just as the line of sight was cut by a mountain, I noticed the helo showing up on my ABRIS. Thinking I just shot a friendly I left my hiding-place and found the helo was right at the position showed in my ABRIS - just that it shot me down instantly, because it was an enemy helo... Knowing the roughly are where he was probably hiding, I approached the area and checked the ABRIS again. After changing altitute and position for a while, I saw him hiding behind a mountain on my ABRIS. My teammate flew there and confirmed his location before being shot down with guns in a dogfight right were I saw the contact on my ABRIS. I hid again and tried to move around and saw him chaning position, too. He confirmed that I could name his location, but he didn't believe me first, because he had the datalink disabled! Can anybody confirm this, please? If datalink was enabled, I'd say it's not a bug but a feature ;) - but with datalink disabled, that's really odd. The other player mentioned that he fiddled around with the ABRIS by the time he appeared on mine. Ulrich Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Was the mark on ABRIS moving when that helicopter was changing his position? If not, the most probable reason is that you saw a mark of friendly helicopter that was already shot down. You need to erase such marks manually.
Feuerfalke Posted January 11, 2009 Author Posted January 11, 2009 (edited) Was the mark on ABRIS moving when that helicopter was changing his position? I thought so, too, but if that was the case, I should have seen the signal while there was a direct line of sight and probably lose it, when I was hiding behind the hills. Secondly, we had 2 active players at that time and I saw the enemy hiding first, then my wingmen entering link-range and appeared in the valley. That makes 3 contacts for 2 active players on my team. And after the active wingman was shot down, I saw the contact moving away. On the other hand, there were some burning wrecks, maybe some from older sorties from my teammates, but wouldn't it be a bug, too, if I got them on my ABRIS? I mean, they were not much more than burning ashes, but I was most certainly not in range when that happened? How did I get their signals through various valleys and over that distance? And AFAIK you don't get contacts with movement direction-markers as shadow signals from over 2 hours ago? Dunno, though... :dunno: On a personal note, I now also wonder why he was not interested in confirming this bug and instead insisted on leaving immediately after I talked about this phenomenon. Edited January 11, 2009 by Feuerfalke MSI X670E Gaming Plus | AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D | 64 GB DDR4 | AMD RX 6900 XT | LG 55" @ 4K | Cougar 1000 W | CreativeX G6 | TIR5 | CH HOTAS (with BU0836X-12 Bit) + Crosswind Pedals | Win11 64 HP | StreamDeck XL | 3x TM MFD
