Will my old missions work in 2.8? What would be the cut-off for old missions?

I was looking at all of my missions, going back to 2013!!  I'm sure those are not compatible with the current version of the game.  I should delete many of those missions.

How far back would you say they start to be incompatible with the current DCS?
2017? 2019?  2021?  Or, 2.6, 2.7, 2.8?   I need to clean things up..

Best option is to make a backup

then resave the mission and test

I doubt there is an easy answer to this.  It's going to depend on the specifics of the mission.  I know there are a number of paid campaigns where changes in the AI have totally messed up their triggers and the way things work even in 2.7/2.8.  A simpler mission from 2013 might work assuming no triggers have changed and AI behaviour changes or similar don't break triggers.  I think it would be safe to say the newer missions are more likely to not be broken, but equally simpler missions of any age are less likely to be broken.

Anything that depends on the old Vinson is broken, as the old model was removed. Stennis model was updated recently-ish, too, and this might also affect missions using the old one. Besides that, it's a roulette. Either way, balance is sure to be out of whack because the new AI actually knows how to fight in both BVR and WVR.

Another issue is changes in trees and forests. There are a lot more now, and units that used to be out in the open may now be impossible to spot. Changes in the weather modeling can have simiilar effects. These problems can usually be solved by editing the mission, but an older mission may be unplayable without edits.

Thanks, I think I am better off moving the majority to a backup..

If you have the time and energy, you can always load them, then save(!) them again and see if they still work.

As others mentioned already, missing old units, AI behavior, balance of enemy vs. player and some triggers can "break" an old mission. But most should at least be able to load and you could test/adjust, if necessary.
