Petrovich bug seemingly causing CTD every time

Apologies if this has already been posted.

There seems to be an issue in that whenever you are in the pilot seat, And you bring up the Petrovich menu and ask him to search, he will do it initially but then seemingly after a couple of searches, the sim freezes and CTD's. This has happened on the last three occasions I have flown the Hind. Different maps. I don't have any mods, currently using the Multithread open beta. also tried it on the non MT open beta, and it still happens.

Anyone else experiencing this?

It worked fine for me as of yesterday. Did you try to repair DCS?

I had 3 times when on Rotorheads server.

Just like you, on multithread and just after asking Petro to scan an area and Crash to Desktop instantly.

Did not test on Single player yet. But played at ColdWar (Persian) and A4Y (South Atlantic) with no issues.

Many thanks. The log indicated this has to do with the Mi-24 wheel brakes:

Not sure, but I will check and come back to you shortly. Thanks.

@Flappie there's no connection, I'm afraid. I have the petrovitch buttons and the wheel brake bound to completely different buttons. They're on separate peripherals even, as I have rudder pedals and I use one of the brakes as an axis for the wheel brakes. The petrovitch controls are all mapped to a joystick (Warthog hotas).

Please try a DCS cleanup and repair first.

If that does not help, try this:

  1. Go to "Saved Games".
  2. Rename your "DCS.openbeta" folder to "DCS.openbeta.bak" (do NOT delete it).
  3. Run DCS one more time (you'll need to enter your credentials) and try to reproduce the crash. You will have defaults controls.

I did a clean up and repair when the issue first appeared, wasn't any help.

I assume I can just rename my save game folder after trying this, and not lose the contents of that folder?

Some good news: you're not the only one with this crash. I've just found an internal report about it.

I assume the issue was introduced with this patch: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/news/changelog/openbeta/2.8.4.39259.1/

Quote
  • Improved: List of targets detected by Petrovich now dynamically updated, user just need to place a point on ground for Petrovich AI to scan and to get updates there is no need to repeat it now, Petrovich should update target list in real time with IFF and new targets progress.
  • Improved: additional optimization of Petrovich AI routine for performance

Hopefully, devs will fix the bug this soon.

You can reuse your former Saved Games folder by the way.

On mobile here so no logs but i had the same experience last night on 4YA.

Just trailing the Hind and one time crashed when i asked the AI ro search for the 5-6th time or so

The other time it just froze as soon as i returned from a successful sortie as soon as my wheels touched the ground.

Let me know if you want a log.

Hi. Yes, please attach your zip (or log file if the crash does not produce a zip). If possible, try to replicate the crash that happens why you land.

Don't accept indie game testing requests from friends in Discord. Ever.
