unpilot1 Posted August 5, 2023 Posted August 5, 2023 Got my Pimax crystal a few days ago and the motion blur is killing the immersion. The clarity when not moving my head is outstanding. I can read every gauge no problem. But man when I move my head I get pretty bad motion blur. I am using the pimaxXr and openXR using opencomposite. What settings would reduce this motion blur? My rig is a i9 32g ram and a 4090.
WipeUout Posted August 5, 2023 Posted August 5, 2023 If you are using DCS-MT, it does not require opencomposite anymore since DCS has native OpenXR support. Opencomposite also reduces FPS performance significantly. Have a look at the first two posts here: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ i9-13900K, RTX 4090, 64GB, MSI 480 2TB (Win 11 Pro), Addlink 2TB (DCS), TM WARTHOG COMBO + PENDULAR RUDDER PEDALS, THE AMAZING PIMAX 8K X, Sony 5.1 Spks+SubW | DCS, A-10C_II, AH-64D, F-14/15E/16/18, F-86F, AV-8B, M-2000C, SA342, Huey, Spitfire, FC3.
unpilot1 Posted August 5, 2023 Author Posted August 5, 2023 I can't run the MT exe as I get a corrupted lower half of my screen.
Nedum Posted August 5, 2023 Posted August 5, 2023 Hm? Should we guess what settings you use (DCS, PimaxXR, OpenXR Toolkit, etc.)? What build of DCS do you use? Open Beta? Did you a slow repair? What OS do you use? What about your DCS system settings? Could it be, and motion blur is enabled? What about your in game Frame Times? By far, not enough information from your side, to lay you a helping hand. 2 CPU: AMD Ryzen 7950X3D, System-RAM: 64 GB DDR5, GPU: nVidia 4090, Monitor: LG 38" 3840*1600, VR-HMD: Pimax Crystal, OS: Windows 11 Pro, HD: 2*2TB Samsung M.2 SSD HOTAS Throttle: TM Warthog Throttle with TM F16 Grip, Orion2 Throttle with F15EX II Grip with Finger Lifts HOTAS Sticks: Moza FFB A9 Base with TM F16 Stick, FSSB R3 Base with TM F16 Stick Rudder: WinWing Orion Metal
HOKUM52 Posted October 1, 2023 Posted October 1, 2023 Please take the time to read, as I am on the verge of sending it back against my instinct. There are 2 main reasons for this below. I recently received my new Pimax crystal 08/2023, I have attached images of all my settings and computer hardware. 1. Motion blur Experience & immersion is completely spoiled by a motion blur. It occurs whenever I move my head. As said in the first post the picture is only clear if you have your head still.. When moving the head around the cockpit for switches, the motion blur smears the view making everything unreadable until the head is held still again. In my searching for the cure the words persistence blur has come up and I don't know for sure but maybe this is what i'm experiencing. Personally its utterly pointless having a "crystal" clear image but with the ridiculous caveat: only if you keep you head still. At the moment I'm telling myself surely this cannot be how it is for everyone who has a crystal otherwise there would be major complaints out there, it must be my settings/ hardware however I have carefully copied setup guides from youtube and elsewhere specific to DCS with Pimax and even the Pimax support team. As well as this head movement associated blur...It is also blurry to watch other aircraft pass by they often appear as a double aircraft with a ghosting effect, or if I look out the canopy whilst doing a roll for example ... The ground and the whole outside world blurs sooo much. My archaic Rift S did not have the roll problem but did have the ghost aircraft. Either way these two issues are really undesirable. 2. Not edge to edge Clarity I've heard many people speak of edge to edge clarity however this is certainly not the case. Infact only the centre of my image is crystal clear, I estimate 40-50% of the FOV radiating out. If the head is still & you move just your eyes to the edges of the FOV, any Gauge or switch labels around the edge are blurred significantly enough to be unreadable. Interestingly if I close one eye at a time, it seems, for example looking at a right side cockpit MFD.. my right eye sees it clearly (eye looking straight ahead through the lens).. while the left eye sees it blurred.( eye looking across through the left lense) & so whatever edge is looked towards does not have clarity. Whilst the Pimax has a sharp image, great colours & way better performance these new phenomena are not present on an old Rift S. For a headset that cost £1000+ yes its an upgrade in one sense but it has a crippling trade off. Multithreading is being used with open xr+ pimax xr + quad views. Im getting 50-60FPS solid in multiple aircraft flying around. I've condensed all my settings into these images. hsth Posted October 2, 2023 Posted October 2, 2023 My first reaction would be: far too much pixels. You could try this: 1. In NVIDA settings all back to default (choose Restore) and set VSync to either OFF or FAST. 2. Check that the correct openvr_api.dll is installed in the bin directories. On my system where DCS is installed on a non-C drive OpenComposite would not install the correct ones. I downloaded the correct openvr_api.dll (size 1,80 MB (1.892.352 bytes)) from the OpenComposite website and installed it myself. 3. In DCS select the VR settings and test and change settings to higher values as far as the system can keep up. 4. In Pimax make sure the calibration for the Eye Tracking is done properly.
TheHog107 Posted October 2, 2023 Posted October 2, 2023 Have you tried any other games/software? Do you have the same problem with them? In the PimaxXR runtime i'd try turning off the "Enable Quad Views". Reboot your computer and try again. Almost sounds like its running as Fixed Foveated Rendering. Cheers!

Dentedend10 Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 Hi, im curious what you’ve decided to do. I just got a Crystal and it still feels like a compromise in some areas(edge to edge clarity and comfort mostly), and I’m not sure yet if it’s worth the upgrade from QPro Alienware Aurora R10, Ryzen 5800X3D, RTX4080, 32GB RAM, Pimax Crystal, Winwing F18 throttle, VKB Gunfighter F14 Stick, VKB Modern Combat Grip, Logitech Rudder pedals, DOF Reality H3
