DmitriKozlowsky Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 I guess I've been gone from Harrier for far too long, and there jhave been too many changes. I no longer understand the engagement sequence and HOTAS switchology to get IR MAV to be SOI, how to lock it on target, and fire it. Old RTFM I have doen't seem to offer answers. Thank you.

Well, the true problem with the AV8 is that there is no "F****n Manual" to read at the moment We have to wait for Baltic Dragon/Razbam to finish the full module manual, and I think they won't do that untill the F-15E manual is ready. Back to your problem, Its a long time since I'we flown the Harrier too but AFAIK nothing has changed in the release procedure so I guess you can refresh it using the Chuck's Guide (God bless that guy), which describe it in Part 10, paragraph 2.7 (w and w/o the TGP). Yes, that's another RTFM! (in some sense), but Chuck's is more user-friendly than the standard manual and has been updated just few months agoo (2023 Feb), so I guess the procedure described there is up to date. Last, if you have the NTTR map, the attacched .miz is a small training mission I did to practice with AGM-65F some time ago. That's is all I can do for you pal, I hope it can help. Dogmanbird Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 (edited) If using Tpod - if i remember right; - SS down twice to enter tpod - slew to target - SS down twice to exit tpod - box the maverick on MPCD stores page - uncage - SS up to select irmv on the mpcd - TDC down (to transfer tpod coords to IRMV) Fire away! (pickle?) I've never bothered trying them in other aircraft. Is it this convoluted? otherwise, if just using the mavs; - box in mpcd stores page - uncage - SS up to select IRMV slewing - slew to target and wait for lock on - fire (pickle?) to fire another, just go from the uncage step onward boresight / NWS button resets the tpod sight if you find it's way off centre somewhere Need to have Master arm on, A/G mode selected, and a mav boxed in stores to cool mavs (3 minutes) and be able to launch them. Nozzle position needs to be almost fully back or they wont launch Hope the above is remotely accurate and helpful Edited August 9, 2023 by Dogmanbird
Hiob Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 I would also recommend Chuck's Guides. Can't help from the top of my head. 7 minutes ago, Dogmanbird said: Fire away! (pickle?) Rifle! 1 "Muß ich denn jedes Mal, wenn ich sauge oder saugblase den Schlauchstecker in die Schlauchnut schieben?"

Dogmanbird Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 yeah sorry, i'm not an expert with the terminology 1
DmitriKozlowsky Posted August 10, 2023 Author Posted August 10, 2023 OMG! I had such good muscle memory few months back. Now I am all thumbs and can't figure I why IRMAV won't popup. I was failing to uncage. Anycase, this is a finger convoluted process. If you are so fast and smooth with your fingers that IRMAV is fired quickly and flawlessly then your wife or GF is one lucky woman! 4
DmitriKozlowsky Posted August 10, 2023 Author Posted August 10, 2023 No, something really has changed. Used to be upon uncage the IRMAV view would popup on left screen. Now it pops up on right replacing TPOD, and it won't slew or lock. Pressing SS double tap, turns IRMAV off and switches to TPOD. Tottally different behavior then from what I remmeber. Somebody has been mucking with siwtchology and HOTAS behavior. Its confusing now. It does not feel right about how long it takes , when has to be done in combat. Something aint right.
Dogmanbird Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 i think it was changed over a year ago to make it behave more like the real aircraft. I remember everyone having a meltdown at the time of the change 1
zildac Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 This has been the behaviour for many months. Uncaging the IMAV kills off the TPOD display. Process I follow is: 1. Designate with TPOD. 2. Uncage MAV (TPOD goes) 3. SS Forward (switch from iNS to IMAV mode) You should now be able to slew. 4. TDC depress. 5. Launch 1 14900KS | Maximus Hero Z690 | ASUS 4090 TUF OC | 64GB DDR5 6600 | DCS on 2TB NVMe | WarBRD+Warthog Stick | CM3 | TM TPR's | Varjo Aero

Master Arm ON IRMAV selected from STRS FUSE: DL or IN Quantity:1 IRMAV spunup for 3 minutes. Go through above procedure. But targeting box does not slew , TDC does lock (maybe) on tgt below flight path marker. Launch: NO! Missile stays on rails. Some ting is wong were. Probably me. DmitriKozlowsky Posted August 11, 2023 Author Posted August 11, 2023 OK. I think I got IRMAV back now. THank you. 2
