found the F15E actually uses a modified external model from FC3 F15C?

checked in the ModViewer

those polygons in a lot of places are actually the same, differences are the 2 seated cockpit   ..the CFTs....  and totally updated textures, maybe normals as well...but the 3d model..

which means the F15E actually has some rough areas on its surface if you look toooo close..(the engine & nozzle area is very rough compared to any other DCS model.)

surprised that Razbam did so much attention to detail but they wouldn't update this almost 10 year old external model?

the mod itself is totally ok and fun and tons of stuff to be expected... just a little upset that we still need to use this 10 yr old external model

i mean you can certainly find some evidences from those polygon setup.. it's like 98% modifed from the FC3 F15C i can tell...

Kind of sounds like you might be looking at the wrong model.

There's F-15E.edm that's been in the game for years (~188K Triangles)
and there's Razbams F-15E_Suite4.edm (~1.1M Triangles)

Hmm...i just checked myself, i think he has a point. Most of the vertices match perfectly, the main difference in triangle count seems to be from the cockpit area. Anyway, even if they did reuse the model, it does not really bother me. Razbams F-15E looks fantastic and if it was not for this forum post i would never have noticed it.

2. Image: Both the f-15e_suite4.edm and the old f-15e.edm placed into each other

i don't know how to upload image.., otherwise i can show you , you can compare the F15E S4+ with the FC3 F15C you will find them to be identical in most area except for the cockpit and CFT... that's my point  the model was modified directly from FC3 F15C.. it's fine but just some imperfection compared to those stunning details RAZBAM did onto this plane..

i'm using the right model and i'm assuming those triangles mostly come from the cockpit and those internal things like the inside of radar dome and landing gear and equipment bays that the AI F15E doesn't have.

but my point is that they reuse the FC3 F15C model to make the either the AI or the S4+

Eagle Dynamics have done really good F-15 (C and E) models. They gave us the "E" model some years ago.
There is no secret as we mentioned it multiple times in the past. We decided to improve it and keep as much of the UV mapping so older liveries would port over easily for artists.

If you look more closely you will notice a lot more items are changed or completely redone all over the model.
We fixed a lot of the things that were found incorrect, added to it, and tried to keep it as much as possible to the original shape.

surely there are tons of amazing details and cool stuff you've done to this module, and overall great experience. really appreciate that

but maybe you have missed some area , i have attached the pic, it's just not that smooth shape as other modules do in these places. because it seems to be from FC3 era and not updated since then.

other module planes all have smooth surface, see below for comparison

it's not a big deal, but just make me feel like there are some imperfection shape around here that doesn't match the overall quality of this module

is there any chance to update it? or it's just nor worthy because it will ruin the current livery plating and all other UV or whatever stuff?

thanks

Yeah I can add more polygons and keep UVs LOL, no problem.

thanks

looking forward to seeing that in game one day

I was about to say,
The community must've forgot the news article where RazBam said that ED Granted them access to the their Model.

Same goes for the KC-130 and KC-MPRS

This is where the term "Diminishing Returns" comes into play.

While you could increase the polygon resolution to make that specific edge appear a little bit smoother, while adding 20-40% more polygons to the model.

That specific edge is ONLY Visible at that angle and specific lighting conditions.

And the ONLY Reason it's visible is because no matter how the smoothing groups are set up it's a hard edge.

Increasing the curve from 24 sides to 48 sides wont make it smoother, just smaller flat edges.

The Lot 20 has ~36 sides on it the engines, but it's also a sloping edge and not a hard edge.
